Brakes making grinding sound

Hi my car is only 3 days old, picked it up on saturday.

When using the brakes, there is this sound that can be described as grinding/hovering sound. I actually noticed it when i picked it up, but thought it maybe because of new brakes, but been using it now for 3 days the noise is still there.

So I decided to take it to a trusted mechanic, before i contacted the dealer and he seems to think that this is something serious, as in metal to metal sound, he didnt have full a look at it, but this is his opinion after hearing the sound

The mechanic recommended I take it back immediately. He was puzzled as to how the dealer could have missed something like this.

any thoughts????

Yes let the dealer sort it out, you can't be too cautious with such things. If the car was standing outside for a long time, it may still be residual rust on the discs, even after a few days - then it is good to brake gently if possible to avoid damage to the discs ("ripples").

on my old ep3 i always had this type of grinding noise coming from the back discs but it was nothing to worry about, and on my new fn2 which is 7months old does exactly the same thing.
but get it inspected just to settle your mind.

Yes, my car makes a strange rubbing noise when you break at slow speeds, I always thought it was because the car has big disks all round. It may just be wearing in, I'm sure that the dealer took it out for a spin and checked over the whole car before you picked it up? This should be standard!

No I assumed as the dealership drove it so much it must be normal, as they have never mentioned it

Update on the brake noise

Took it to the dealer. He agreed there is a noise which should not be there. Was referred to the main service guy. Who said it could be erosion on the disc due to it sitting there for a few days, before i picked it up. He advised I should pump my brakes quite abit and the sound will disappear, so will try that for a day, but As still booked in for a check on Saturday.

Hopefully it is something simple

My wifes 1.8 SE is a year old now, and it as had this noise from new. At very low speed with the radio turned off hit the brakes gently and you can hear a hissing noise. I believe it is due to the poor sound insulation on these cars. I spoke to another Civic owner, his one does the same.

Can I ask if this hissing/rubbing/grinding noise whilst braking at slow speed is happening on all civics as mine has always done this from new(coming up to 2yrs ). I ,like the last post, have always put it down to lack of sound insulation. not the end of the world I know but it hardly makes the car seem very refined.

My wifes 1 year old Suzuki Swift has also done this from new and checking the Suzuki forums there is a known problem with the brake pads being too hard (causing scoring to the discs?) and if complained about the dealers have been instructed to change discs and pads under warranty. As its due its 1st service next week will have to see what the dealer says.

As an aside I have to say Suzuki are winning in the who gives the best aftercare experience with any complaint large or small being sorted with no hassle AND with a FREE courtesy car. IF HONDA UK READ THIS I HOPE THEY TAKE NOTE AS A SO CALLED COURTESY CAR WHERE YOU HAVE TO ARRANGE YOUR OWN INSURANCE OR PAY THE DEALER PER DAY AINT MUCH OF A COURTESY (and my car has been back many times).

Unhappy

Have the same thing on my 10 month old 2007 Type R, been to dealers twice and both times they said it was due to all the salt they grit the roads in Scotland with.

When I brake gently at slow speeds I hear a light grinding sound.

They offered to strip the brakes and give them a clean for £65 !!!!!

They told me its because "Ive got Alloy wheels" and they are "more open than steel wheels"- I told them I dont button up the back and every car I have ever had in the last twenty years has had alloys and I have never had a problem.

Same here, nothing to worry about, mine has done that from new and the first service didn't pick up that I needed new pads.

I checked visually anyway and mine have got loads of meat left on them.

I am glad to hear the comments about this as my car does this and it is only 4 months old, The only saving grace, for me anyway, is that other cars I have had have done the same at low speeds.

I wasn't so much worried as intrigued.

il back u up on this matey,my colleuge has civic 5 door 99 model and its common knowledge that the rear pads on that model make a slight grind noise.but as the other guy said hed had it 3 days it probably was doen to being stood and just needs runing in.but as stated a trip to dealer may get u a new set fitted under warranty.
