sambuca2907 - Would it make you feel better if I legalised my plates - I think not!! Anyway unlike plenty of other plates, mine look only 1% less good. I know this because I own a set!!
robbo51 - In response to this thread I found elsewhere:

Niki-Milano, you will have to excuse robbo51, he can be a bit Yorkshire (blunt), but he is quite nice once you get to know him

robbo51 - Lets see who places the note first me or you LOL. I know you park in the school carkpark. I figure that you took the pic on 'Review day.' Weren't you observant enough to notice the civinfo sticker on my back screen? Why do you suggest that they give 'the guy a break' when it was you who started quoting the law!!!
sambuca2907 - Do you think I'd be stupid enough to drive a Ford Escort with this reg number - I think not. Why is this weird?? Could you explain how I bought the plate in order to deface it - It says exactly what it says!
Robbieee - The price I made for the plate is worth 3 times more now that its on the car. The car was £24,000. CASH. What makes you suggest I have money worries?? The issue was not affordability but availability!!
anthony - If you witnessed me doing a 'Hit-and-run' and your statement read "It was a Red 07 Civic and there was a Z in the last three digits" or if you said "It was a Red Civic and the plate said Civic but spelt wrong" - which one would be most likely to be traced - Answers on a postcard please!!!
alanwalne - Why do you assume I took the badge off? About the cost and value issue - you can have same answer as I gave Robbieeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! Build a bridge and get over it!

Anyway you've all had your bitch I've had mine and Many Thanks to those who support me.
It was nice talking.

No offence meant to anyone after all were all Civic owners.
Steady on...It was not me that originally mentioned the legality of the numberplate, I merely agreed later.
I was taken aback at seeing a rather smart Civic and thought I'd take a picture of it for the forum particularly as it had a 'clever' number plate.
It was only afterwards, when I posted the picture, did the legality of the plate come into question by other members.
I did do some research and found the 'legal bit' as part of the discussion.
So those are the facts...We are a very friendly group here in Civinfo and if you are angry and upset, then I suppose you should blame me for posting the picture in the first place. I am not here to slang people off, I enter into lively and sometimes controversial discussions.
If you would like the thread removed, this can be arranged.
Just let me know with a PM
BTW...Use the 'chatbox' and you'll see how friendly we are.
May I make a suggestion too.
Sign up to the Yorks Meet and come and see what a nice bunch of guys we really are.
Regards

I am flattered to be included in your collective comments, but you are clearly choosing to misinterpret what I wrote. My comments were about illegal plates in general and not about yours in particular- even though they seem from the pictures to be so.

Hi,

It was Sambuca, Type S Bournemouth, me and several others who mentioned the plate was illegal, and it was only a matter of fact point, that you run the risk of a 1000 pound fine (possibly more if you argue with them), 3-5 points on your licence, possible detainment under the ATA if you drive near a major city (anti-terrorism act, this is because your plate would be unreadable by ANPR cameras), as well as your insurance company failing to cover you if you are involved in an RTI, because your numberplate is illegal (and believe me they are this petty).

We weren't being horrible, just discussing a point (that the police of late have been clamping down HARD on people with dodgy plates ).

Have a wander round the site, you'll find loads of stuff you never knew (like all those niggles and noises, they're not in your head, most of us have them), your car looks top, just change the plate before you get a tug from the law.

ATB,
Tom

So what are you saying then? Do you deny the fact that you would remember my plate before a regular one.
If I thought I could 'do a runner' without paying for fuel or run a speed camera without being traced, then maybe you would all have valid points.

Be honest everyone, my number could even be read by a partially sighted person. I think that the only machine that couldn't read it would be one in a 'Power cut.'

You are still missing the point. Your plates appear to be illegal. This is not something there is any question of variability about. You cannot be "a bit pregnant" as the saying goes.

Whether I can or cannot read, or remember your plate is irrelevant. If your plates are indeed non-standard, you are breaking the law.

Anthony.

I think at the end of the day we are discussing the facts and sharing info between ourselves - that's what this site (and most of the web!) is for.

How about we just leave it at that otherwise we'll be going around in circles with each other!

Legal or Illegal, I think it looks good! I'm not sure I like the font but I do like the idea.

What an absolutely fascinating discussion we are having, made all the better by the introduction of the guys whose car started the discussion.

Niki_Milano, firstly welcome to the place we really are a genuinely friendly bunch but we don't hold back with our comments, but they are generally not aggressive or abusive. I think meeting with the guys at the Yorks/lancs meet would be a good idea - at least then you will meet some good people.

My question is a simple on really : As has been discussed at length the legality of your plate and concluded that it is illegal, how do you feel about the legality issue, not the comments made?

It is interesting to see whether people are bothered, by the implications and the legality, if they weren't aware of it before.

Im in this bracket, I love the plate, but not too sure on the bold type!
I would gladly display it and face the consequencies later!

This has all gotten a bit heavy and Im almost sure that given the choice of displaying this plate, most of us would have it.......if it is your thing that is!

Rules are set, but how many of us stick to them rigourously? have you never done 35 in a 30 zone?

Yes - that's how I got my first speeding ticket!

(actually - thinking on - it was 36 not 35!)

However think of the consequences if they run into you and their insurance is invalidated by the plate, your premiums go up, adn your car may not get repaired at all, as technically they are an uninsured driver.
