This is the Ford system: GKN supplies innovative AWD system to Ford Focus RS
It's 270kg heavier than the FK8 hardly "very little weight difference". I'm not saying the RS isn't a good car but that's a considerable amount of timber to be carrying around over the FK8.

Most of that has nothing to do with AWD though.

According to press articles, the clutch based AWD system only adds 20kg's to the weight: New Ford Focus RS: full details on 345bhp, 4x4 mega-hatch | Auto Express

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the exact weight of the GKN Twinster system is 19.3kg or around 24kgs with ancillaries.

Given that the focus st of the same generation weighs 1470 kg and the rs weighs 1599 kg I find that hard to believe. 😉

+1! There is no 20kg awd system. the RS has twice less boot space, less space for ocupants, smaller car overall as well, it's less safer car than fk8 (focus doesn't even pass small overlap test in the us, where both 9g and 10g civics have flying marks, also it's worse in pole and side tests in euroncap than the mentioned), and it's almost 280kg more than fk8 on top of that, 160kg heavier than focus 2.0 ST, and 206kg more than the prev RS (which is 5-cyl 2.5) which(mk2.5) if was 5 door it would have been more practical and roomy. current RS is less practical than the 1200kg 308gti for God sake. When you load it up will go 2100kg that's almost 2 empty GTIs! For short and small sized hot hatch. What an achievement. Where can I order one.

I've not seen any decent photographs of the underside of the FK8 but from what I've seen a lot of components would need changing to fit the propshaft, differential etc. Not sure it's worth doing anyway, given weight differences and transmission losses.

Looks like two nice centre boxes there asking to be pulled out to give some extra noise ala tegiwa B pipe. I don't know if I'm blind though or if the whole system looks to be in one piece unlike the fk2

The UK Type R page and configurator is up.

I love that you can add another spoiler on the rear. No option to get the center pipe red though

I had no problem to add 6k pounds of extras

Not sure about the carbon stuff though. Any experiences with it from the FK2? Troubles? Worth it?

Must admit it's the best pic i've seen of the 10g type r but given what i've seen of the rest of the range it'll probably be like one of those facebook profile pics which looks nothing like the real person, lol.

I think it looks pretty much the same in person as the pictures, if anything even better as it's hard to take in it's size e.g. wider and lower and agressive by the pictures. I also thought the same with the fk2, much nicer in person than pictures.

The accessory packs are pricey though, I've the carbon in my fk2 and quality is good, but I think it rather sit tight and pick up some aftermarket pieces for cheaper. The R&D is already underway in the states for intakes exhausts and wheels for it, so suppose that's a plus of it getting released stateside first. I've my mind made up I want it either ways, just torn between white and red.

Black looks stealthy but such a pain to keep clean. That grey that looks like primer is the only pants colour of the lot

yoy aren't comparing like for like though. Can't compare fully loaded to empty, that's just stupid.

I like the Type R but I'd have liked it more with AWD.
