No idea who she is but she's ruining my life right now. Allow me to explain.

I received an email from my insurer last week informing me that they were sorry to hear about my car being involved in an accident on the 5th of November last year :)confused::confused::confused:) and could I get in touch with them. So long story short I've denied all involvement and they believe me because this woman who has claimed against me lives in a totally different part of the country (wouldn't tell me where). Probably a case of her getting the number plate wrong but in the meantime my renewal is due and because of this claim and the reduction of my no claims bonus from 5 years to 2 they've added an extra £1000 to it which I can't afford. FML.

They've said it could take up to 90 days for her insurer to get back in touch about her stance on this situation and they will chase it up every 14-21 days. Gee thanks. So in the meantime I've cancelled my renewal and am looking elsewhere but if I can't get a decent price I'm goosed.

Anybody had a similar experience? I've searched for this woman on google and facebook and she doesn't exist. Her surname alone comes up with zero matches. I'm starting to think my insurance company has fabricated this entire situation to bump up my premium lol.

So angry!

Jesus, never heard of a situation like this before what a nightmare. If they believe you already why have they factored the claim in the renewal quote? I guess they have to follow the paperwork proceedure to close the case off but still, what an arse of an ordeal.

If worst comes to worst you could buy some temporary insurance for 1 month or so from some other company until this bogus case is closed. Granted it'll be over inflated but cheaper than forking a whole year and it'll keep you on the road until you can get a decent annual quote.

I've just done some Internet digging and found nothing. Is the name definitely spelt correctly? Did they give you the details of where the accident occurred and the damage etc? It all stinks like fraud to me.

Same thing happened to my mum a few years back. The first she knew was when she was summoned to court for shunting another car and causing all 3 occupants to suffer whiplash. There was never any evidence of damage or repairs and it got thrown out but it took a long time to get sorted. Good luck getting it sorted!

Cheers Laney, didn't think of getting temporary insurance, that might have to be the short term fix and cheers for having a mooch about online Jonny. That's the name that's been put on the claims details section on my online insurance account. The first time I called my insurer they said the claim was for a mobility tax payment but on my account it's listed as a claim for a collision. It does seem proper dodgy like. I've even told my insurer I can prove I was on shift in work that day from 0800 to 1800 but until it's resolved they're not budging on the no claims discount amendment :(

Do they have a police report or photographic evidence?
Any evidence whatsoever of your involvement?

There must be some sort of way around this, some sort of ombudsman who could advise?

#7 ·
Would your insurers accept a sworn affidavit
Cheers guys, I'll send my claims advisor an email now asking him the above questions. I've had no contact from the police which is strange and if they have photographic evidence it won't be of my car, obviously. As far as I can see they have no evidence at all, just my registration and it seems like that's all it takes to royally spoil someones day :(

There we go, email sent. Hopefully I'll get a bit more insight into what the hell is going on. Asked for a quote from Greenlight as well and should get that tomorrow. If I'd stayed with AXA they would have had me going from £600 2 years ago to £1850 next month. What a bunch of clowns.

#10 ·
I don't get it... you only have to declare actual accidents not fictitious ones surely?

#11 ·
Ha, well with Greenlight I've told them I have an outstanding claim to the value of £0 because that's how much Linda Perzasey will be getting from me. It's so frustrating knowing that I can prove with actual physical evidence that I wasn't involved and yet I've still got to wait for her insurers to get in touch with mine. If I don't get satisfactory answers to the questions in my email I'll be taking things further as the AXA claims team are useless.

#12 ·
I'd just take out a new policy and not declare the fictitious claim tbh.

The time limit is six years from the date of the accident for damage claims and three years for injury claims so looks like this would be December 2011 or December 2008.Pleny of time yet for things to happen ! This is all governed by the law on limitation which I could explain more fully but you would fall asleep after two more lines !
Time limit on car insurance claims? - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

I'm afraid you might have left it a bit too long before doing something about this. The normal time limit for this sort of claim is 6 years. By waiting 7 years I think you will find that your friend (ex-friend now, I guess) is off the hook.

What you should have done within the 6 years is take out a County Court judgement against him at his last known address. That would have kept yor claim open for recovery for ever.
It's 2 years to file a claim with your insurance company. It probably is too late but you could talk to your insurance agent and they may be able to advise you about taking him to small claims court.
Hi everyone. what is the maximum time limit for bringing a claim? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers

Cheers Relic but your point has sort of gone over my head a bit lol. Are you trying to tell me that this claim could be open for up to 6 years and therefore I have no choice but to declare it when requesting quotes?

Small update - Spoke to a friend of the family who is a police sergeant and he's heard of this happening before, it's a scam. He's advised me to not fill in any documentation AXA send me (which I haven't) and also to get a senior figure at work to sign a statement confirming that I was at work on the day of this alleged accident. After sending said statement I'm to wait no longer than a week for AXA to reply and then I'll be getting in touch with a fraud investigator.

Judging by the name alone I'd agree it's a scam. It's the kind I name I get emails from encouraging me to buy genuine Viagra and that DHL consignment they couldnt deliver.

I cant understand how your insurer would not be concerned about the possibility they're getting ripped off.

#19 ·
Haha yeah it is like one of those names come to think of it.

I'm very disappointed with the service I'm getting from AXA right now. I was fuming when I was told rather abruptly on the phone earlier that they will only chase up the claimants insurer once every 14 to 21 days. Absolutely zero sympathy for my situation. Ruthless!

Possibly mention you are taking this up with trading standards as no claim has been filed to your knowledge and if it has its false and shouldnt affect your new quote.

Also contact the motor insurance bureau and see what they say then tell your insurers you have contacted them and that the insurers in questions procedure is wrong and will have consequences if not rectified (even if they dont blag it)

The guy on the end of the line may be so intimidated by your educaion on the matter and higher sources he sorts you out if not youve lost nothing but half hour trying!

I've done another google and her name is now number one! No use though as its a link to civinfo. In all seriousness the name doesnt appear to make sense or be spelt correctly.

Get as much info from your insurer as you can or contact her insurer and do the same. Last time I needed to do that they told me just about everything. What are the particulars of the claim?
Apart from the annoyance of your insurance temporarily increasing while it's sorted I wouldnt worry about it.

She's never been so popular lol. Either she doesn't exist or she's some proper old woman with no family.

The claim is listed as for a collision on my account but the guy on the phone last week when I first rang said it was for a mobility tax payment which makes no sense to me at all. That's pretty much all I know about it. I don't even know who her insurer is. I'll be finding that out as well.

I would go to the police as this is a fraud case against you. Then tell the insurers the crime number.
I'm going to find out tomorrow where this alleged accident happened and then get in touch with the police in that area and discuss this with them. Ask if they knew about it and if they did then why haven't they contacted me? And also get the details of the accident if they do have knowledge of one.

I was pretty relaxed about this last week when I initially got the email but that was when I thought it would be sorted out quickly. After today it's become apparent that I need to be proactive.

I ignore any emails I get unless I'm expecting them. Maybe cloned plates?
Get your questions answered and let us know how you get on, it's an interesting case. Be careful not to give any information out.

#31 ·
Cloned plates was one of the things I'd considered. AXA reckon they told her insurer last Friday to confirm with her what make and model of car it was and a description of the driver. I thought this would have been done by now and I'd have had the inevitable 'Hi, yeah she said it was a green Ford Mondeo so we've chinned her claim off' phonecall.

Hopefully I'll have some progress to report tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Surely your insurance is obligated to tell you the details of the accidents/location other insurance company. As others have said speak with insurance bureau and then police.
