1.4 si sluggish

My wife 2010 1.4 si feels very sluggish .
I've driven 1 litres that have more zing.
Is this normal?
Anything common that might cause this?
Maybe a MAF or something

100hp engine with little to no torque is the problem, combined with a heavy car. The 1.4 petrol is a terrible engine and very sluggish.

The missus has a Jazz and that's the same but personally I think it's down to the map. And poor throttle response, first option is a throttle controller, the second in which I'm currently in talks with is a ktuner reflash

Had 2 Jazzs and they were fine but they are lighter cars.
Also they have a 5 speed box if that has any bearing.

I disagree. It's far superior to any German offering or any other offering for that matter.
And I am a German car fan. My own car is an M5.
1.4 with decent mpg, 100 bhp, chain drive, clock work reliability!
What's not to like?
Apart from the obvious.

The equivalent Golf 1.4 petrol sounds like a tractor and feels primitive in comparison even with FSI direct injection. At it can pull the skin off a rice pudding. Only just.
Need to drive another to see of mine has an issue.

Maybe try the throttle controller then as that should liven it up a bit
