Preventing badge theft- Mozambique style

So,
On way out of Maputo in Mozambique, taking in the culture etc, I noticed some odd things on every single car..
So I spoke to the local guy I'm with and he states that the normal practice here is to rivet badges, wing mirrors, lights so that they don't have a second hand value and are not so easy to take off..

That's one way of doing things!
And the aluminium rivet business must be a dead cert here!! Haha

VW badges seemed to be 'the ones to steal' at one time. Don't know whether they still are or not.

Wasn't it one of the reasons why there's this 'recent trend' to have separate letter model name badges - OK, you can remove them, but they look crap unless you get all letters and can line them up again?

I think I know the answer to the GTI remark.
Must bugger the body work warranty having it popped full of rivets though..
