Selling a car privately

I'd forgotten how annoying it was
Selling the missus family wagon and I've had the lot. One with question after question, another couple offering around half the asking price. None of them have actually accepted my invitation to come and take a look at it. What's going on with people these days? Where's your good old fashioned tyre kicker when you need them?

Watch out with them as well.

That first 'interesting quote' is their reference point, from where they start deducting as much as they possibly can .... !!

Enjoy the experience.

we took my Mrs civic to Evans Halshaw, it was a 2009 civic with about 90000 on clock and they gave us 3000, i kept an eye on it and it went on sale at 4090 and kept dropping 100 a week until it sold for about 3700, so i dont think we did a bad job getting 3000 to start with, may be worth a try

Yep, it can (is going to be !) a nightmare.

Only answer really is persevere. Too many cars and choice out there I reckon. Plus some just prefer to buy from a dealer/trader.

If after a certain (good) length of time the car is'nt attracting buyers, or not attracting very close to asking price offers, really the option is to lower the price and try again.

Never really had an issue - sold two in the last few years, both to the first person that enquired. However, I've describe them honestly and in detail and priced them realistically..

It depends on car and price. I sold my last two cars within 24 hours to the first person that rang me for an asking price.

First was 2004 VW Passat 2.0 petrol/lpg,
170k, advertised 8pm, sold 8am next morning for 1000. This was 4 years ago.

The last car before civic was 2004 Lexus LS430,96k. Advertised for 4500 about midday, had 4 calls within first hour and sold the car next morning.

Both cars were described very accurately and priced accordingly to the condition.

Always sell cars on autotrader. Expensive, but much less time wasters than on ebay, gumtree, shpock etc.
