Question Civic noise going over bumps.

Hey guys,

Was wondering if someone could help me out. Only had 2007 Civic Type S for a few days now but getting this odd noise when go over bumps.

It sounds like it could be the drivers side suspension or chassy. I'm not sure whether it could just be nothing or whether there is something wrong.

So, the noise. It sounds a bit like a squeak but its a bit more than that. I can't explain it tbh. Only happens when going over speed bumps (even slowly) or on small uneven parts of roads.

Was wondering if anyone else had experienced such strange noises in the past when going over bumps. The sound doesn't seem too harmful and makes a noise in time with the back of the car going up a speed bump and back down again.

Hope i've explained enough. Thanks in advance to any replies.

you might have a problem with the suspension. U should get the dealer to check it out and get it fixed under warrenty.

My suspension is developing a strange creaking noise too hope getting into dealer asap.

More than likely the well documented front struts bump stops issue-apparantly the bump stops or the complete strut is changed under warranty. You're dealer should investigate under the warranty. My drivers' side squeaks over speed bumps or occasinally when the car's taking a hard left hand bend.At the moment planning to have the dealer look at it when the car's due its service.

Thanks, I bought the car from a garage not the Honda Dealer so would they sort it or is it not their problem. They gave me 3 months warranty like.

Think its out of warranty end of feb. (56 plate but only made in 2007)

Warranty is 3 years from the first date of registration - Honda should cover this problem for free - so, get it to a Dealer a.s.a.p.

Cheers, thanks for that. Would I need to bring anything with me as haven't got the logbook to state that I own the car yet.

Not noticed it in weather changes, but when its colder it seems to be a bit noisier. At first I thought something was cold and would go way after a bit but must be something like the bump stops mentioned earlier. Hope it gets sorted.

Don't mean this in a bad way but glad others have experienced this problem.

Will give Honda in wigan a ring and see if they can check it out for me. Warranty is up end of Feb so don't want to leave it till after then.

bumpstops - had mine replaced cured the problem - a month later started to make same noise but not as bad as before, if that makes sense. I have learnt one thing knowledge is power! so dont take the dealers word, say to them 'i have been to civinfo website' bla bla bla and explain properly and i bet you my bottom dollar they will investigate it properly and fix it, it worked for me, so far! Will be back again to dealers with suspension issue though as im really gonna make use out of that warranty before it expires in march!

Bump Stops

I get exactly the same on my car but it is out of warranty now and doubt it would be covered by the warranty I purchased. Is it important to get it done can it damage the car if you don't get it done and finally how much to get repaired?

Just been back to the garage I bought it from.

Got one of the mechanics to sit in car when went over speed bumps etc.

I told him I thought it was the bump stops but turns out its not a clunking noise but has more of a squeak to it so he seems to think its a dry joint.

They're going to lube up the suspension for me ten try it again. Still thinking of asking Honda to check it over for me. How would I know its definitely the bump stops?

Lubricating and tightening the sub-frame bolts has cured this for a good few members - so, if this doesn't fix your problem - it's something else ! ...

It's the car that has the warranty - not the owner - no 'proof' needed ...

p.s. - the 'squeek' might also be an exhaust mount (pipe runs down under the right side of the car) ...

I have the same on my 06 civic 5dr EX

It only squeeks from the front passenger side when going over speed bumps, gets worse in the wet s well

Think my warrenty has gone too, but i think it is the bump stops or dry joint so maybe its the same problem as mine. It been doing it for 1 month now and i have left it, sometimes it goes away. So not to sure if it will damage it?

Im not that fussed, i dont think any of it is expensive to do either so dont worry, just take it easy

but nice to know its not just me

Had mine fixed today at the Garage I bought it from and sound exactly the same as my problem.

They found it to be a dry joint and something, can't remember what had slipped down.

Lubed up the suspension for me and now its quiet as it should be going over speed bumps.

Milano you should take yours to a garage you can trust and get them to check out the suspension just for piece of mind. A bit of lube on the suspension could cure all your noise problems.

hope you get it sorted.

I had a similar noise from the front off side and Honda replaced the entire front suspension assembly under warranty.
