Rattle Rattle @ 50mph

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me solve this mystery.
When driving at 50+mph, the front vents just under the windscreen starts rattling, when I slow down to around 35-40mph the rattling stops. Has anyone had this happen to them or know a solution?

Thanks

If you're sure it's the vents rattling then you're halfway there, take it into the dealer and let them sort it out.

Many rattles on the Civic seem to be untraceable.

Mysterious cars we have, its strange that its linked to the speed, and terrible on motorways, need to turn up the music to drown out the sound.

Off to the dealer I will go :s

The civic its japanese and its made of plastic - its going to rattle you will always hear a new one every few weeks. The roads, speed, weather, mileage all seem to cause rattles

nah, no bump stops or wiper motor fitted, just the what came with the car when i first bought it. At first I would it would be something to do with the engine, but the rattling is definitely inside the Dash, maybe caused by Wind passing through the vents while driving at high speeds? really not sure

Its more than likely to be NOT the vents rattling, but the wiper cowl rubbing against the windscreen.
Mine did this and the dealer solved it by putting some pads between glass and plastic.

The vents in the center (above radio) rattled like mad on mine after I had done 1000 km in the car. The dealer sorted it on warranty.

The reason why it rattles like mad at 50 and not below is because of resonance. If you go slower the rattle will disappear as the frequency setting it of goes down. If you increase the speed it should disappear as well (although it is possible that you will hit another resonance peak setting it off anyway )

aren't the wiper cowls on the side inside of the center of the windscreen?
the annoying thing about taking it to the dealer is time and work

What's Japanese got to do with it?
Toyotas don't rattle. You can't decelerate in them but they don't rattle!

Woohooooo!!

After 2yrs and 363 days, I took my car in to get rid of the rattles. OMG! im so pleased! I can drive on the motorway in peace and quiet (minus the road noise).
I asked the guys at Honda to see what was wrong and they said they had to tighten the stiffener under the dash (?)

I'm pleased its been fixed

Hi Mang0. How long did they have the car for? And how much did they charge to sort it out? Mine has a rattle from 20mph up to 60mph and it sounds like loose plastic trim rubbing, or a small grommet loose in the dash somewhere. Thanks.
