self accelerating when cold

Hi, for the first time this year I've noticed that when the engine is cold, I put the 2nd gear in and take my foot of the gas the car accelerates up to 20 km/h and drives forward alone - is this normal? this happens only in second gear sometimes even when the engine's warmed up.

I used to be able to get my old crx upto 30 mph in fifth without touching tha gas from a standing start.

Its the torque of the engine trying to get it to the idle point if when it gets to idle point again you then change upto third and very gently and slowley release the clutch it will then go faster and the same in 4th Etc.

Although with these indistructable clutches I wouldnt be trying it too often

Its to stop the car stalling from being in too a high a gear for the speed.

I'd say its just the engine pulling moe than normal when idling due to the high idle speed when cold. I believe the above poster is confusing this with the delayed engine die-down between gears to reduce unwanted engine braking, which is determined by the ecu.

I think I can explain this. When the engine is cold as you know, it is very easy to damage parts via friction etc. When the weather is cold the engine begins by revving higher than when it should be idle in order to heat up. I allow the car (practically every morning) to come down to around 1000 -1200 rpm before I drive off. It's actually a safety thing for the engine--even my 2000 X-REG honda civic coupe sport did it!

Nah, if you engage a gear which is slightly too low, the engine will 'pull' until it reaches idle level, therefore the car will slightly accelerate. Obviously if you engage a gear which is far too low the engine will stall.

I relyon the engines torque when pulling away.
Slowly realeasing the clutch until it moves before applying any throttle.
