Scratched windscreen

Hello all,

I noticed yesterday some very thin scratches on my windscreen but it was hard to see in the rainy night.
Today I took the opportunity of a sunny dry moment to have a look.
Well, I gess it was done while de-icing the car these weeks (we had unusual snow/ice in Paris this year).
I use a standard plastic tool to remove ice, I've got this tool for years and never had such an issue.
Has anyone the same issue ?
Is the Civic windscreen especially fragile ?

Car is going for first service on March 10, I'll ask them.

I have the same problem and i guess lots more have too. I guess it's poor quality / soft glass and i think alot of mine is caused by the wipers because i never use scappers on glass just luke warm water to de-ice.

Some days i feel like smashing it and paying my insurance excess to replace it, maybe a better quality glass form a different supplier. The dealer didn't want to know when i reported it to them.

Yes, we have excactly the same problem after the winter, and like you we have used a PLASTIC ice scraper and now have about 40 terrbile scratches across the screen.

I'm going to point this out when we drop the car off to get the clutch box and rear boot trim replaced. The car is an 08 model and looks like it's 30 years old! Maybe I should wish for a stonechip that turns into a big crack so I can get it replaced for 70 through the insurance

Yeap me too! I found two scratches on mine, they were so deep that I thought they were cracks at first. The plastic around the wipers are also scratch as they are made of soft plastic.

Red face windscreen scrathes, no obvious cause

After six years, my Civic windscreen is a mass of fine scrathes, which are only visible in the rain or when the screen is cold. I've only used a rubber squeege to get the ice off, so it's not been scrathed by anything hard. I'd decided that the glass was coated in some way and it was this coating that was being scratched. (How can rubber scratch glass !!). Who knows, only Honda.

There are far too many light scratches to consider jewellers rouge or any polishing compound involving drill attachments.

I get temporary relief by polishing the windscreen with a rain repelant, but this is easily removed by screen wash, so only provides a very temporary solution. Currently I grin (or not) and bear it.

I have found that all windows seem to be very delicate and scratch easy on the civic...

As i said in the other thread don't use jewellers rouge. Cerium oxide based polish is better and will maintain transparency.
