Fuel tank noise?

I've just picked up a used 2.2 iCDTi EX 5Dr this week and yesterday I filled the tank to the brim for the first time.

I had the radio off and as I drove along I could instantly hear the fuel sloshing around in the fuel tank, especially as I was in the town centre rush hour stop start traffic. The fuel was slapping about front to back in the tank.

Is this normal to be able to hear this when the tank is full or would you suggest that there may be a problem, ie could the baffles in the tank have failed?

Has anyone else experienced this or am I on my own?

Cheers.....Rob

Yup happens all the time, I don't fill my car anymore only half full at the most! Means you don't get that noise and the car is lighter-faster

Its perfectly normal and most noticeable with a full or nearly full tank.
The tank is located under the floor on the drivers side hence the fact you can hear it.

Not just drivers side, it goes underneath both front seats. We always fill our tank and only hear it now and again. TBH when you have the radio on you can't hear it

Thanks Guys

Glad it's not any major issue.

I have to say that I was really surprised when I heard it and a little unnerved.
Thanks for the responses.........Rob

fuel tank problems in 2012 Civic

Well, I have 4,100 miles on a 2012 Civic 4DR LX, and within the last month I started experiencing the fuel sloshing problem. I think it is a terrible design, and it was not this way when I bought the car!!!

I have also experienced, on 3 separate occassions, the engine not turning on when I put the key in the ignition. It usually starts when I withdraw the key and try again, but still...

So far all the local Honda dealer can tell me is, "This is normal." and "We don't know why this is happening."

I have put $3,000 down on this monstrosity and another $900 so far in payments. It is distracting, probably affects the gas mileage, and probably unsafe. I am not pleased. I should have bought a Ford.

Yes I think it would worry me sitting on top of a full tank of petrol ( gasoline) not to worried about diesel, I don't think diesel version is exported to the USA you could then get 60 mpg

I think your US Model has the fuel tank in the rear and not under the front seats like the euro models.... Which is even more concerning as you should not be able to hear it
