power steering fault - fk2

Hello guys

i read many threads about the problem with the power steering ...

i have got a similar problem but not exactly the same ...

it appears normally when the car was parked over night at cold temperatures ...

i start the engine and get the orange steering wheel with ! beside ... powersteering does not work then ...

i have to restart to remove the failure and the car works without any problems then ...

the difference to the known problem is, that there is nothing recognized by the ECU ... no fault saved ...

i have been to the shop about 10 times now ... they cant find anything

they actually laughing at me because they think i'm dreaming or whatever ...

did anyone of you have something like that?

IMHO the car has a over all problem with the powersupply from the battery in cold weather while starting ... i also had problems with the radio that did not initialize correctly ... it was replaced but it happened again one after a really cold night ...

That's what your problem is power supply, The only way to find the problem is to plug a handset into the obd an run a live data program, probably due to low voltage problems, had this problem with an MGF,came up with steering angle sensor, ran live data and found only 11v supply found a duff battery led to the problem.

Somewhere on the forum is a Honda service bulletin which I think replaces the EPS module for this fault.

a lot of important systems in your civic require a minimum of 12.6v to work propperly. a car will start with less than this but the damage is allready done so to speak. thats why once started and then switched off and on again the fault may dissapeer. you have increased the battery voltage and the fault is no longer there. there have been problems with the eps controll units and the connectors to the steering rack being loose. as a start point though check the battery voltage and eliminate any problems that may be causing a battery drain.
