Starting Issues

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help/ advise me on this problem i am having with my CTR. Its a 2007 on a 56 Plate and only happens now and again.

So here goes with trying to explaine what is happening

Put the key in 'like normal' and turn it, all lights and beeps happen like normal then when i press the start button the car wont start, it does sound like a flat battery....(you hear the car try to start 'not turn over though' just a small noise but car doesnt start this will happen after pressing the button again)

Then next i take key out and put back in try to start the car again and it will start....

I have checked the battery indicator on the battery and it say all ok. And would it be the battery if it starts after i take my key out and put it back in again.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be. Shall i just change the battery or would that be waste of money??

If it spins and fires instantly the 2nd time and the battery is good...
..I would supect the battery in the key itself/transponder is not working properly and not disabling the immobiliser ????

After leaving the key in for a while the key battery may charge up sufficient to work properly.

This doesn't mean the battery is OK - it's a bit of a con as that indicator is only telling you that cell is healthy. You need to check the voltage before you try and start the car

dont think its the key as i thought it may have something to do with that so been using the spare key didnt happen for a week and thought yay sorted it but last night went to start it and bang well lack of noise was the problem haha.

i heard there was a recall of the fusebox which caused this problem so called honda and my car has had the recall done so thought they said about booking it in for a diog test all well and good apart from there being a 3 week waiting list!!!! how stupid is that. And not really looking to pay 50 odd for a diog test for them to then say well nothing has shown up. any other ideas would be a great help.

Can you try leaving the key in the ignition for 2 minutes at position 1....then try and start.

Does it fire first time when you do this ?

Had the same problem before, dealer came up blank. Not happened again since I had it checked over.

If the noise you heard is a whirring, motor like sound, its the starter motor not actually engauging with the ring gear on the flywheel.

Its a known fault with early CTR's, of which yours, being on a 56 plate will most certainly be.

You need a new flywheel in that case. You car is probably just about out of warranty now, but i'd fight it with honda for them to pay, as its a well known issue that they know about
