AC clutch engaging intermittently, warm air

So I've finally decided to sort out the AC in my Honda.

The issue I first tried to deal with is that the AC compressor does not engage when the button is pressed. Maybe only 1 in 10 times does it engage. I have tried changing the AC relay - once with a cheap Chinese version and once with an original DENSO relay. No success with either. The AC rarely engages - 1 in 10 engine starts maybe. This leads me to believe that my relays are fine and there is something wrong with the compressor.

The second issue is that it doesn't blow cold air at all. When I manage to turn it on I can hear a hissing sound which I read means that the system, is very low/empty on gas. I believe that this will be fixed with a regas or at least temporarily fixed.

I have purchased a regas but am yet to book it. I read somewhere that it is possible for the AC clutch not to engage if the system is very low on gas. Could this be the issue here and could it be possibly resolved with the regas alone? Or am I better getting a refund and going to an AC specialist?

Thanks.

Thanks Das, I'll give it a go. Hopefully, it works if not then it's time for the AC specialist.

I have full gas, and sometimes AC compressor isn't engage and it won't for even few hours.

Could it be some relay and if which one?

e;
I'll try change relay first.

it's the black relay with the blue stripe next to the fuse puller tool

Thought I would give an update to the AC situation in case anyone ever finds this and has a similar problem.

I recharged the car at ATS Euromaster 1 month and 2 days ago and the car was fixed. It can blow 4-5 at the vents in 23-25 outside temp. The relay was not a problem and in fact I have two extra relays - one is a cheap Chinese one and another, more expensive, Mitsuba one. Turns out the original one was just fine but the system was completely empty.

Advice for anyone with no AC clutch engaging is to check the gas level first. Telltale sign is a pronounced hissing sound when you manage to get the AC clutch to engage which I could do sometimes even though the system was empty.

I might do an update in a few months to see if it's still working. Hopefully I am lucky and didn't damage the seals. Also, if anyone needs a relay pop me a PM.
