I recently bought a 57 plate ES. It had a few minor niggles one being a problem with the drivers side mirror won't auto fold.
I clipped the plastic cover off to repair it and I've found the fault to be what looks like some sort of regulator or sensor thats wired inline between the power and motor. Its a small black box about 3cm x 2cm x 2cm that can be disconnected.
I swapped it with the same part on the passenger mirror and hey presto driver mirror now works but passenger doesn't anymore so I'm pretty sure this is the culprit.
Anyone know how to get a hold of a replacement part or have a part no for this?
recently folded the mirrors in and found that on nearside one the mirror does not go fully in its folded position(and not synchronised), but rather in floppy sort of way when I moved it - but quite ok when extended!Whats wrong - probably expensive - fortunately I can still use them.I had wondered whether some vandals had force the mirrors whilst it was parked
I'm having the same problem with my passenger side. Goes so far but then stops. I have noticed that it works when the engine is running (albeit very slowly) but if the engine is off it won't go fully up.
I will try switching the black box in the wing mirrors round tonight
Many Thanks Speedsqiuirrel ,checked the fault by swapping regulators, ordered new part as per your illustration will collect next week, then all systems go..:
My driver's wingmirror is in the process of dying. It folds a few cm in then stops. It will go the full way in the next day when I restart the car though
Look at the other thread on this site about fixing folding mirrors. You can replace that little component sticking out on the top (polyswitch) of the box for a few quid. You don't need top buy the whole unit.
The fault with these mirrors is not the whole regulator it's the small poly switch that sticks out the top, if you carefully cut the pollycast sealant away (dremel is very handy) you can solder a new one to the legs of the old one. The parts can be obtained from RS components for about 20p each, the only snag is you have to order 10 and there is £4.60 postage but that is still very cheap.
Part number is RXEF030 (72 xf030) for info it's a 72 volt 0.3amp resettable fuse, it is good for about 100 resets before the trip current starts dropping and the component trips before the mirror is fully folded.
I've just fixed both my mirrors with a cost saving of £140
I can confirm that in replacing this small polyswitch - it fixed my issue for £1.64!
The old one looked burnt out - so graze the sealant with a kitchen knife enough to expose the legs, cut the legs to size then solder the new one to existing legs.
The polyfuse is not a problem. The fuse has a short life - 100 disconnections.
The electronic system has been designed in such a way that the fuse will never turn off
Honda, however, made a mistake and the fuse disconnects.
The electronic system should detach the mirror earlier than the fuse will disconnect.
New, improved - without this defect, you can buy for $ 25. Shipment from Poland $ 7.50.
SOD MK9 is also available ZTEB0522E00 -it does not appear as a spare part
I will answer your questions - I note, my English is not good
@teresak11b Hi - what if it's not the fuse at all, literally the motor not getting the signal to move? I've tested mine with by changing (and replacing a SOD, and have a second hand mirror assembly that I though had been supplied broken, but plugging the whole assembly into the drivers side, the motor works.
I literally can't get the offside unit(s) to move in and out when plugged in - mirror movement and heating is fine.
It's probably worth noting that mine is a 2010/2011 car and sneaky Honda have buried the poly fuse into the resin now, so you'd have to be really lucky to get to the old one to fix it without breaking the whole thing in the process.
Since 2010, other modules have been installed. Without a fuse.
They are less emergency than modules with a fuse.
However, they can damage the mirror motor.
Disconnect the module. Connect 12V to a larger plug for a few seconds. Change the polarity.
- The mirror will fold and unfold -> is OK
- No mirror reaction - > burned motor winding
If I understand correctly the unit on the passenger side will not fold yet folds when plugged into drivers side if so you have same issue as I did, a break in the wiring loom supplying the folding motor, I traced mine to where the wires leave the drivers door and enter under the dash to supply power to the passenger side.
I'll be checking this when I get a chance, OR just running new wires from the button through may be simpler...
