Wash Routine.

Ok so this wont be of much interest to many but im going to post it anyway.

A few months ago I found out how to use Bilt Hamber Auto Foam properly. BH recommend a 4% Panel Impact Ratio(PIR) which make it relatively LSP safe, there is a great thread on detailing world about this. I had always just used it at the 1 inch in a snowfoam cannon and tbh was always disappointed, but mainly(and wrongly) from a Foaming point of view. So anyway I purchased a 5lt garden pump sprayer and added the correct ratios of water and product. So today was the first wash id managed in a week and if your in the UK you know what kind of weather we have had and coupled with a 300 mile week the car was covered in road film, salt deposits, never mind a good mess from undiluted screen wash and de-icer.
So my wash routine is spray the BH AF on the car, then go set up my pressure washer which gives it enough time to soak away, then rinse off, apply AG Polar Blast and rinse.

Now ok I forgot to take a before Pictures, but I really did not expect the results I found. My LSP is AG HD wax and over the top AG Aqua Wax.

Please remember NO Contact wash has taken place in these pictures. For anyone who really tries to look after their paint work I can not fault this method and you really should try it.

Nice one, I’m going to take the pump sprayer to the local jet wash. I’ll try it with BH this time to compare to the green star I used last time.

So in my 1ltr sprayer I need 40ml of BH by those calculations in your link.

Thats a good suggestion for someone who doesnt have access to home washing facilities and doesn't want to use a Dirty Sponge car wash or the dirt loaded brushes at the supermarket.
If I hadnt wanted to dry the car down with AG Aquawax I honestly wouldn't bother doing a full contact wash. I really need to buy some cotton wool pads and see how much dirt is left after this touch-less wash.

I understand it will be 40ml to 960ml of water for 4%, I also believe you can make it as strong as 8% and its still LSP safe

Cheers for the info Das. I've just ordered some BH Auto Foam and the Gloria FM10 Foam Sprayer (got the idea after reading that Detailing World article you linked) I'll let you know how I get on when it all arrives.

Foam sprayer might allow the product to cling better, do let us know how you get on.

Nice job you've done Das. I've tried all the foams and pre washes over many years but Koch Chemie Greenstar is my go to. You'll be amazed how much dirt will still be on your car after a touchless pre wash.

Ive seen greenstar getting good reviews. I might give it a go, its £10 for 1lt though, BH AF is about £16 for 5lt. I dont want to go down the route of having products just for products sake though.

Yea I did see that, that might have been what made me look at using the BH AF properly actually.

I finally got the BH Auto Foam and the Gloria FM10 pressure sprayer. I made up the solution with 960ml water and 40ml BH AF as the FM10 takes 1L. The FM10 comes with 3 different foam inserts but I ended up using the blue foam insert after trying the red and black first, this makes it less foamy but soaks better. I needed about 1.4L to do the Civic and 1.6L to do the CR-V. The AF really did take most of the dirt off after pressure wash rinsing - well impressed. Both cars actually looked like they wouldn't have needed a hand wash but I did it anyway with BH Auto Wash (5ml to 10L water). I always use the two bucket method and the telling sign was the rinsing bucket which is normally very dirty after washing was pretty clean this time. I don't think I'll use the BH AF every wash unless the cars are really dirty but I'm sold on it now!

I find I using the 5lt pump sprayer I only need 1lt of made up product, and tbh that's being quite liberal with application too, the nozzle does have quite a wide spray pattern which may prevent having to go over areas. I stopped using the TBM years ago. If you have a good pre wash regime I cant see the need. I just have one tall bucket, must be about an 8 gallon one, and two wash mitts. Ive used BH Auto Wash but cant get passed AG Pure Shampoo now.

Cheers Das, I think you're right with the 1L, it was my first time and I probably putting on too much. I read an article from BH that stated if you put more foam on top you're just wasting product.
You could easily get away with one bucket as most of the dirt and grime has been lifted away with the prewash foam as my clean rinse bucket proved. I've always used AG Bodywork Shampoo in the past, just wanted to see what BH Auto Wash was like.

Ive used it a few times but I always end up using too much product, I ended up buying kitchen measuring spoons to get the right ratio in my bucket, but that was too much off a faff. I prefer just a big squirt lol. You should try the Pure Shampoo when you BH runs out.

Will do Das, I have a bottle of the AG UHD Shampoo (came with the UHD Wax kit) so once I'm out I'll give it a go.
