Battery Jump Start - Civinfo

Jump Start

Is there a right and wrong way to attach jump leads to the battery as i was trying to jump start a friends car but can not get the plus lead to clip on to the battery terminal and where do you place the neg end but couldnt get it started with the leads give up then brought a new battery.

Join the positives like for like and the negatives it's best to join exposed metal work like an engine bracket or strut tower as hydrogen can come off the battery negative if linked and is nasty if the power arcs .

There is an engine spike, on the engine, use that.
