The satnav..don't listen to it

the one thing i've found about the satnav is that you shouldnt listen to it.

When I do it's extremely confusing as it keeps telling me about a 'left turn' ahead and similar. I expect a left turn to mean i have to indicate and turn off the road i'm on, when in fact the left turn ends up being the road bending to the left or the road going straight on at the crossroads.

I usually find it better if i zoom in to about 200m so you can see the path of the road you're supposed to be taking, and it helps to know what your turn off should look like

Yes, it is definitely 'listen and look'. Once you get used to it you check the screen automatically.

My wife still comments on it as it often sees the bend in a road as a 'turn', especially when there is a side road nearby.

We've been to a few shops in other towns lately and I was amazed how it took us right to the door. It may have its foibles, but it's still very good.

The biggest fault that I've found with Millie's SAT NAV is when I take back to the Stealer, I call up the little Honda logo on the screen and off we go.

About half way there we have to take a left turn, it shows on the screen, but Millie keeps her mouth shut at this point.

It's the only failure noticed so far.

......oh dear, where am I now?

I turned the sound off on mine a long time ago.
The screen is in such a good position it is easy to look at... the yellow "count down bar" is a big help for finding the right exit.

I must admit that the screen position is one of the things I don't like about the Civic.
I had a vectra before the Civic, which also had satnav, and the screen was hardly ever obscured by the sun or reflections, but I find that the screen in the civic is sometimes totally unreadable when the sun is out.

Is it just me that finds this problem?

Otherwise, I think the satnav is great, as with all other sat nav untis, you just have to make sure that you have your wits about you and use both the audio and visual alerts, along with keeping your eyes on the road ahead!

Not having the inbuilt sat nav ( i have the Polish EX version) I have a tom tom and I also have to look at the screen to check the correct direction.

Having only got it a couple of weeks ago I have tested it extensively so that I understand how it directs - good job as I am off to croatia later this week

Yep, the left/right turn thing fazed me to start with, as said , expecting a 'turn' rather than a bend in the road, but other than that I find it very good. Took me to the door when I got my leather done in Swansea, even tho the turning into the business park where the workshop was, was very small and didn't look like a proper road.
