Good news campers! The K800i works!

My phone asked me to update it's firmware t'other day so I obliged accordingly. It's currently running firmware CXC1250210, R1ED001, 060831 if that means anything to anyone.

Anywho, got my car back yesterday and I felt compelled to try pairing it again.

The pairing went fine, as always, however, this time I could make calls! The phone seems to route outgoing calls through the speakers 9 times out of 10. If it doesn't. I just hang up and it works the next time.

Receiving calls... well so far I've had 100% success rate.

All this and I was about to buy a Samsung D900 just so I could get HFT in the car. H'rah.

I have an N73, which is a symbian series 60 v3 phone like the N83/N93 and it works fine. Pairing was a bit tricky though, the HFT could not detect the phone at first, the only way I got it to work was fo the phone to be searching for bluetooth devices at the same time as the HFT.

Hi Shaz, I currently have the SE K750i and was going to upgrade to the Samsung D900 (as it's slimmer for going in the trouser/shirt pocket) but you chose the K800 instead. Is there something wrong with the D900

Nothing wrong with it but it wasn't out when I got my K800i!

I was going to go for the D900 as I knew it would work and sell my K800i but obviously now it works there's no need.

There is a 3g version of the D900 due out in December though if you want that functionaltiy.

I've had major issues with my N73; it's been back to repair twice within a month and so many problems that I took it back and ended up with a K800i; it works perfectly with my bluetooth hft (a-pillar version), even better than the N73 and in my opinion it's a nicer phone.
The D900 is missing a reasonable amount of functionality over the K800i; but if you want to just make calls and texts then the D900 is fine, the main reason I didn't get it is no voice control via the phone; fine for the EX HFT system but not for the a-pillar one.

Thank's Shaz and gg, apart from ease of use and good reception, I really want a phone for the odd photo opportunity and with it's 3meg camera the D900 sounds fine. I shall miss the radio in the K750i, but that doesn't get used nearly as much as I thought it would.

Hi - which network are you on? I'm on Orange, which has custom firmware, so it may not be available yet ... how do you get it to display the firmware version?

Hi , Does this mean you can make calls using the phone itself ?
If I try this with my Nokia 6680 it disconnects the blue tooth.

Jimbo - from memory, if you start the call from your phone, you get press the talk button and say 'transfer' and it will reroute it via the HFT.

hopefully someone will confirm, but fairly sure it's something like that

Jimbo .... I think the only way to do this is to dial from your phone and hang up immediately. Then press the talk button and say "Redial".

Apologies for quoting myself ... but I've made some progress. The Orange firmware doesn't let you know the version number, but it can be found out with > * < < * < * (> is right joystick, make sure it's not assigned to anything).

The SE update service doesn't have any new Orange firmware, but there are third-parties who will upgrade your firmware over the net - I used http://www.wotanserver.com/ which costs 7 euro a pop.

I upgraded to R1EG001 which is slightly newer than Shaz's firmware, so I hope it'll work. Improvements include "Improved Bluetooth relibaility with GPSes and Handsfree kits". I'll let you know once I've tried it tonight.

This results in your phone having vanilla (i.e. not network-branded/updated) firmware, which may not be something you want and could affect warranty ... so I'm not advising anyone does it unless they know what they're doing.

Be warned that this loses all settings & photos if you don't have a flash card. Take backups first!

Shaz,

That's great news! I had one of the first versions of the K800i and it NEVER worked. So I went with the D900 instead!

My next phone will be the K800i then as it works with the Honda HFT. Which by the way I think is a superb system.

My D900 works EVERYTIME!

Does anyone get the name of the caller with incoming calls on their dashboard screens?

I have an N80, and i don't.

I am guessing wither the system isn't capable of this or you need bluetooth 2.0 on your phone.

Alright Jimbo,

Just to let you know, I have a Samsung E900 which works perfectly, EVERYTIME with the Honda HFT. The only command it won't/can't do is the REDIAL command. But I don't really care, as long as everything else works.
