Road Angel Question

I have purchased a Road Angel II (what is called new road angel) for 10 with all cable etc. The subscription is out of date which is fine and it is now reg'd in my name. Anyway reason I got it was to avoid hand held traps in France as their Police are worse than ours with trapping.

Question, have I just wasted 10 or will the Road angel work in france for radar and laser traps? Im not fussed with the static cameras as they are quite well signed across there.

Thanks

I think radar detectors are illegal in France - whether you are using them or not.

GPS based devices to detect fixed installations are ok though.

Hi
Yes it will work in France, mine did this year, however don't let the French police see it as they are illegal. The police have been known to even check cars straight off the ferry or tunnel.I understand that you can get a hefty fine and the road angel will either be destroyed or confiscated, best just to stick to the speed limits.

I can confirm radar/laser detectors/jammers are illegal to use or own

Being caught with one of them in your car (even if it's switched off) means class 5 offence (1500 fine, 2 points off the license, license suspention up to 3 years, they seize the device or even the car)

And yes GPS based devices are legal, they're selling like hot cakes here

Always best to check these things first. Apparently its illegal to use cruise control on Belgian motorways. Can't imagine how they would enforce it.

Laser detectors are illegal in most Western European countries.

The road angel 2 you have may not be what you clearly think it is!
The road angel 2 came as a gps locator not only for speed cameras but accident blackspots and could be switched to identify schools , speed indicator and finally a basic laser detector . The laser detection was activated automatically and as a result of primarily the french enforcement some years ago this could be turned off permanently (ie you could not turn it back on ) by download from blackspot.com.
The question is has yours been deactivated ?
you could ring blackspot and find out
you may want a basic subscription for uk cameras also includes mobile camera van sites which will also let the unit power up and find sattelites quicker . You can also purchase a european fixed site subscription but as you say they are signposted in france.
Good luck either way!

1500€ fine
?
Maybe 10 spent is not worth the risk. Were going to Monaco so a long old drive and to cruise down at 140kph would make quite a difference....just hope it is dry so 130kph is acceptable.
