warning light on display..?

Hi folks.. advice needed please..

Does anyone know what the bright yellow (!) means on the digital display infront of me on start up of my 2.2 sport..? It only comes on and pings after start up now and again and goes out and returns to normal display after about a second or two.

It's in the same place the large refuel warning light comes on.

My Civic is running like a dream..

Any ideas..?

Civic's got 28k on the clock now..

The (!) is the warning signal indicator. So if you haven't put on your seatbelt it will stay there until you put it on. If the boot isn't closed properly it's stays on to draw you attention to the problem. Generally the centre of the speedo shows the problem by scrolling through the menu's

When you see the '!' symbol press the ! button on the steering wheel and it will inform you what is wrong in the center of the rev counter

To me it sounds like the oil is getting close to the lower limit. Perhaps the oil is not low enough to activate the warning permanently. I would check it ASAP.

As the warning goes off, it does not sound like the seat belt or open door warning as that warning would stay active until the 'problem' changes.

The light comes on and goes off at start as a self test!

I get this alot, but I always get a 'Check System' warning on at the same time. Had dealer check the fault log, but nothing there. Another unexplained problem?

Hi Folks ***** for all the replies...
Yea I've checked the owners manual after posting the thread.. DOP..!!

It's needing the handbrake replaced anyway just not had time to get it into the stealers yet. It might have something to do with that going by the manual.

Cheers..!!

Yes it sounds like the handbrake warning. If you drive away with the handbrake on you get a big ! in the middle.
But most lights do come on at start up as a self test and also to warn of a bulb blown in the particular area.
