Tailgate latch

Just bought a new tailgate latch from ebay for £17. Does anyone know if there is a specific way in when they should be changed or is it just a case of unplugging the old and screwing in the new and plugging it in.

Also what is the easiest way to access this as it looks like half the boot trim needs to be removed to get to it.

Thanks in advance

What's up with it if you don't mind me asking?

On my 2.2 it worked it's way loose so it wouldn't latch properly. You could wiggle it around a fair bit.

All you have to do is take the boot trim off, it's a bit of a job but anyone who can follow instructions can do it, and then it's held in with an allen bolt.

In my case it was simply just tightening it up again and it worked a treat.

Hope this helps

I think I must of have something obstructing it from closing then when I tried to close it, it just wouldn't latch. fiddled around with the latch and managed to get it to catch on the first notch but this throes up the alarm on the dash and also doesn't allow the central locking to work with the key fob. rather than take it off and have a look at it I thought it would be easier to just replace. I hope its a cheap fix. fingers crossed

Is there a set of instructions available to take the trim off?

They're on the how to section, if you look for replacing the rear cluster or something they're on there. Pretty easy just be brave lol
