Volgens mij wilt ie een soort van installatie-handleiding om te kijken of ie er zelf aan begint of de dealer laat zwoegen.

*english mode on*
According to me, he wants an installation-manual to check whether he'll do it himself, or have the dealer work on it.

Hoi jongens,

*english mode on*
Hey Dudes,

I ask the dealer of honda what it will coast for a camera kit, he says 715€ inclusive placing on the car.
If there is an other sollution, like stef says, I'm also intrested :d !!

Groetjes / Greetings

Installing rear view camera

As an electronic designer myself, I would not recommend to install a non Honda camera set.
You need the special wires and connectors to fit into the GPS DVD.
You need a special watertight camera and fixations…
I do recommend to buy the set 511Euro ( I know it is expensive) and install it yourself and save 200Euro.

DO NOT TRY TO DO IT IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE IN INSTALLING THIS KIND OF STUFF.

Ask a friend, or ask me, I will be glad to help.

A few pictures what you can expect: ( I also installed the blue floor lights)
I did this the 2e day I had the car !

Hi,

You are brave

Did you install the Honda Blue lights or were they your own design?

Actually i installed the "luxury pack" this includes camera, metal door sills, the floor lights and Mats.
You clould install some 0.5Euro blue LED's yourself but I like things "perfect fit". That is also why I install stuff myself on my car. The dealer could damage some clips and never replace them, nobody would notice untill the rattle starts...

Do the ambient lights do anything 'special'? Dim with interior light, were they quite easy to fit?

They lower the value of your wallet by £200, if you get the dealer to fit the TWO LED's

.....and you still don't get a wiper!

Has anyone tried fitting one of the reversing cameras and "LCD in the rear view mirror" systems, as available on ebay for around £100?
It seems a good way to go if you don't have the LCD in the dashboard, and is considerably less than the Honda version!

Hello Stef,
It was my intension to do some trials by using a computer to feed various video formats into the Navi unit. Can you remember what type of connector is used by the rear view camera input ?. Also, do you have a special reason for recommending the use of the Honda camera, I am prepared to adapt something like that shown in Mandrake10's previous post.
Regards, pcr.

Stef,

Hopefully you can help me? When you fitted your rearview camera and had the glovebox off, did you happen to notice what type of connector went in the back of the Sat Nav DVD unit. Was it a 20 pin molex connector like this?

Your help would be appreciated.

It does look like this connector (but is has been 3 months..)
Here also a drawing from the connector signals (it does look like an 6 pin connector...).
The original camera works at 7V (+/-2V)
I suppose if you put the car in reverse the VCC ouputs 7V, this 7V returns from the camera into Camera detection > turning on the LCD for the camera. Please try to insert 12V using 1K resistor (to prevent damage) into the camera detection input, this could turn on the LCD. THIS IS MY THEORY, I DID NOT TEST THIS. This is how I would design this.
This method prevents for the LCD going ON if you put into reverse without a camera attached. The camera signal is a standard composite colour signal 1Vpp / 75ohm. Good luck.

Stef,

Sorry I've not replied sooner, been very busy. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. You have clarified a number of questions for me!

The reason I asked about the connector is that I've been doing some research regarding the possibility of hooking up a separate video source (DVD, Car PC etc.) to the Navigation screen. After researching the web and speaking to a company called Nav-TV, I have found two potential products:-

http://www.gnetcanada.com/navvideo-m...Car=Acura%20RL

http://www.nav-tv.co.uk/show_product...product_id=161

Both intercept the main 20pin molex connector between the Navi CPU and the screen/CANbus, converting a composite video source into RGB with sync. The Nav-TV version (NAV-INHON) has a second 6 pin connector (Blue in the pic on the website) which plugs into the reversing cam socket, which I assume detects reverse gear selection (as per your diagram).

During my research my, I found out that the Euro Civic shares the same 4th generation Navi unit as the ACURA RL and Ridgeline in the US, so the G-Net unit will work fine with the Civic and cost IRO £180. Still waiting for a price from NAV-TV, so not sure which one I’ll go for. But when I do, and if it works, I’ll post my results here.

Off subject a bit, but relevant.........

The ACURA sat nav system has more functions than ours, two of which are a trip computer (same functionality as our instrument binacle version)and calculator. After obtaining a couple of the RL’s BIN files from a helpful RL owner in the States, I’m well on the way to hacking our system and adding the trip computer application. I’ll post an ‘How to’ when perfected. This is what it looks like in the RL/Ridgeline.

I have the rear view camera, Though when I reverse, It takes quite a bit of time to come on and when it does. It feels very strange using it because it shows a much deeper distance then you actually are. Be carefulllllll. Is there anything that I could do so it actrivates quicker and shows the correct distance?
