Pairing problems

I've just bought an 07 Type S with the bluetooth phone and sat nav built in. I've been trying to pair my Samsung Galaxy S6 with no success, and tried a colleagues Sony Xperia X1 compact today as well. It seems that you can see the car kit from the phone (comes up as Parrot CK3100) but the car kit doesn't pick up the phone. If you try to connect from the Galaxy S6 you get an error that it can't communicate, but if you try from the Xperia you get the prompt to put in the pin number but it won't go any further.

Am I doing something wrong or is the car kit not working? Or are the versions of bluetooth on the phones too new?

The only thing that caught me out a few times was that you need to have both units in discovery mode searching for each other at the same time.

The car kit itself doesn't seem to do anything once it starts searching for a phone. If you press the talk button again it reminds you that it's searching but it eventually times out. I've tried turning on the bluetooth on the phone before starting that process, and I've tried it after the car kit has started looking but it doesn't seem to matter.
Seems odd that the phones know it is there because they pick up a Parrot CK3100, and one can put the pin in which seems to indicate that the bluetooth is actually working in the car. I really hope it's just a compatibility issue and that the car kit is actually working, I'd love to be able to use it

Might sound daft but are you sure the ck3100 they are picking up is your car and not someone elses.

I did wonder that but I've tried it both at home and at work so it seems unlikely (though I expected it to say Honda HFT rather than a generic Parrot kit)
Next thing to try is my husbands old phone which has an earlier bluetooth version. Then I might pop in to a Honda dealership to see if I'm doing something wrong

I'll try and get a pic later. Got a bit further with hubby's phone, it sees the car kit, you try to pair and it asks for the pin but every time tells you the pin number is incorrect. I've tried telling the car kit both 0000 and 1234 which she reads back to me correctly but it isn't having it.

Might be worth checking the parrot kit and see how many phones are already paired with it. It might have reached its limit. Remove all the old paired devices and try again.

Thanks, but I'd cleared the system right at the beginning. Very puzzled!

Sounds like car has old Bluetooth software that new phone doesn't like. Try googling your make and model of parrot to see if it gives you any Bluetooth version data. If you find a old pdf file it may give you the pin code to pair with.

I've taken it in to Honda today and they had a look at it for me. They reckon that the car bluetooth kit stopped working a while ago and someone has fitted a Parrot somewhere in the car (either that has gone wrong too or it is full so can't accept any more phones).
They think that the car kit needs a new control unit at a whopping cost of 950!

I'm going to have a hunt through the car to see if I can find the Parrot kit. Any ideas where it could be secreted?

At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, have you or Honda checked where the original HFT module is located (under panel between door and right of the dash)?

I've no idea if they did but I certainly haven't as I had no idea it was there. Now I will check

That's exactly where I was leading to when I asked for a photo!

Hope you find the parrot module...let me know as I am pretty sure I have one in my garage that is fully working and yours if you want it.

Oh and the CK3100 comes with a screen, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. I'm pretty sure it would be useless if the screen isn't attached. You are looking for a blue box (the main unit). About 5 inches long IIRC.

So I pulled down the trim under the steering wheel to have a look for the Parrot, though I didn't remove the trim entirely as I didn't feel confident about getting it back on again. I couldn't see any blue boxes. Pics attached

Hft

Hi
Hope u didn't caused any damages as to get into the HFT on the driver side when u open the door u need to to open the triangle trim, no screws on this just use flat screw driver and gentley open it. With the help of Filips screw driver remove the only screw and then gently pull the trim under the steering but be careful as the HFT is screwed behind it with two screws. That's the unit u are looking for if your car original HFT is not there then possibly ** parrot kit might be behind that

I had a proper look today and did remove that screw first so I could properly take the trim off.

I've unplugged the HFT module, blown the connectors just to see if it would make a difference. It didn't lol. I read on an old thread that a few people tried "reflowing" the board by putting it in the oven...it's already kaput so I think I'll try it.

Otherwise, I will find that damned Parrot kit if it kills me! It's definitely not under the steering wheel. Next stop is the centre console and the side of the drivers footwell. Wish me luck!

No need to try and find the Parrot kit anymore - I did a bit of "home baking" and the Honda HFT is alive again! I was amazed that it actually worked. So far my 5 Civinfo subscription has saved me in excess of 1000!
