Question Alternator output too low?

My alternator's voltage output when measured at the battery terminals while car is running is 13.8 Volts. I've read on the forum that the output should be 14v or more. Can anyone confirm this? Would the fact that I have a car insurance telemetric box wired in to fuse box affect voltage measured?

Has anyone else with a 2011 mk8 1.8 ltr petrol measured their alternator output and what readings did you get?

Thanks!

Garage
rev it up to fast idle; about 2.5-3k and volts will raise to around 14.2v (typical for any alternator). idle volt check sounds right at 13.8v though.
best to turn off everything you can when you check it; heater, lights, wipers, audio etc.

You could check over the battery terminal connections and the main earth connection on the cars bodyshell to make sure they are corrosion free, clean, tight and secure, any poor connections could increase the resistance and drop the voltage slightly. Though 13.8v at idle sounds ok.

And as above, check the voltage at about 2.5k - 3k rpm
