Faulty CD Player (CD READ Error) - Any Ideas?

Hi guys,

The CD player in my car has worked beautifully since I bought it second hand last year. However after a few weeks of not using it, I tried to insert a (brand new) cd and the display flashed up "CD READ". Nothing happened. Tried all my other cds and it seems the same problem is occuring.

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any advice for trying to fix it before having to spend any money. I've already tried a CD cleaner disc, but it just seems like nothing is happening other than it sucking the disc in and ejecting it when pressed.

Thanks in advance!

Is the car still under its 3year warranty? If so, take it to your Honda dealership and the unit will be fixed/replaced FOC

Sadly yes, almost 1 year out of warranty now - I think it's going to be expensive to replace!

The dealer should be able to tell if your cd player is dead or not, with a price to replace it.
You could try ebay for a replacement part. A quick look found these, 220510595189, 180502114965 & 400103696159. I think there was also a sat-nav radio too.

Eco display
You could buy an aftermarket double din unit and get the fascia and wiring adaptor, might be cheaper than the replacement CD player.

Or there's always Ebay 2007 HONDA CIVIC HEAD UNIT on eBay (end time 08-Jun-10 16:27:42 BST)

According to Lings Parts, a new Head Unit is 970! http://www.hondaoriginalparts.co.uk/...&block_03=9958
