Red face Installing DRL on Side Lights

So im trying to install some daytime running lights, the specs are

Voltage: 12V DC
Watt: 10W

Theres a positive red I have to connect but im having trouble trying to get it to work, I only managed to touch either connectors (not fully wrapping it around it). My question is which one do I attach it too?

https://ibb.co/KmdMFQ1

Theres a brown or light grey wire *try to set it go with the sidelights* I disconnected the high bean connection to get the shot so ignore the other wires.

Also if I dont connect the negative to ground will it still work?

Any help will be appreciated my wiring skills are obviously crap

No. And they must go out/dim when you switch on your lights. See HERE. Scroll down to retro fit.
The idea is that DLR lights should be bright enough to be easily seen during the day, but mus be dimmed/switched off at night to prevent dazzle.

I appreciate your concern, so how would I set them up to run? Also need to figure out which wire to connect it too. but thanks I will definitely not have it set to run when my low beams are on.

Out of intrest, how did you install the bulbs? Don't have an 8G so not sure on the format; are they a straight bulb replacement or have you had to mount them specially?
