problem with pairing htc desire to type-r

I have just bough an 07 civic type-r with sat nav and hft.
on my first attemp at pairing the phone it was successful but then I realised that the former owner still had all his details set in the car I reset the hft back to factory.
Now I cant pair my phone to the car. I go through it all give the four digit code and the car doesnt find my phone.
What I am doing is after entering the code in the car and saying yes, then my phone is ready and bluetooth is in discoverable so I scan for devices and find the hft. But when I try to connect and put in the code the phone says disconnect device(or something like that), is this a problem with the car?? Any help and I would be very greatful.

Try letting the HFT find the phone and then pair rather than the phone finding the HFT.

I've managed to connect my HTC Desire to a car when I was test driving it. I'm not 100% sure how I did it but I do remember that once I set a 4 digit passcode, I scanned for devices using my phone. I didnt ask the car to look for the device. It was working fine. I'm hopefully going to pick my car up this week. I'll update the thread once I know exactly how I did it.
