Orange San Francisco

I keep reading glowing reports of the Orange San Francisco Android phone.

Anyone got one and if so does it pair to the HFT OK ?

Wonder who makes the Orange phones?

It's a rebranded ZTE Blade phone.

It used to all be HTC stuff, even, IIRC, the old Orange SPV's if you remember them.

I find most phones I have had have syncd ok even if not on the Honda website...

And yeah I had the first ever orange SPV... I thought it was amazing- a windows pc in your hand and a phone and a plug in camera! .... Then I received it and spen half my life waiting for it to do what I asked ( like opening a file, or text message) and the other half of my life waiting for it to boot up or, more often, re-boot! It was sooo slow! But I did learn never to buy the first version of a new gadget ever again!

I can't see why it wouldn't, surely if it's running Android it'll sync the same as any other handset running Android?

It looks like a seriously impressive phone for the price, I'm actually considering selling my iPhone 3g and picking one up.

I do rely on my handsfree link and I really need to know beforehand as without it I'd be stuffed.

Surely, if you like the look of the handset so much, just get it and try it. If it doesn't work suitably for you then orange offer a 14day return policy if you don't like the phone. I've returned one everytime I've upgraded

Can't be fussed with all the hassle TBH.

I'm in no mad rush to change but I spotted the reviews and just wondered. Of course the other minor problem is getting an active mount cradle, but that's another story

Just managed to convince my dad to pick one of these up as a replacement for his ageing nokia.

For a 100 phone, it's pretty slick. Android is quite impressive (first time using it) and speed wise is at least on par with my 3g.

Hardware is okay, the buttons feel extremely cheap though and I'm not too sure how long they'll last under heavy usage. Sound quality is alright, volume is a bit on the low side, but not bad. Had a bit of an issue getting it to recognise it had a SIM card in it - took a few attempts of taking the card in and putting it back in and wiggling it before the phone recognised it, but got there in the end. The screen however is fantastic. On the whole the phone feels a lot more expensive than what it is.

I can see why it gets glowing reviews, it's a seriously impressive bit of kit for the price.

Afraid not.

Thought i'd give you a first hand impression though just to help!

Might be worth noting that if you order it online you can return it - however apparently you can't return it if you bought it from a store unless there is a genuine fault with it.

Thanks, but I'll wait until I know. I need the connectivity from day 1.

First orange launched vegas (it seemed to be the most cheapest phone in 2009 to me as compared to other branded mobile phones and was only a bad customized zte phone), then came orange san francisco (well it was quite good as per its specs with entry level hardware) and now orange barcelona. So far i found orange mainly customizing zte phones but why dont they create something innovative rather than customizing zte's (coz previous two phones vegas and san francisco were modification of ZTE phone models) however this time they changed their mind customizing even huawei phones.

However in my opinion buying francisco on contract with orange will not be a nice idea (unfortunately my brother bought it on contract with orange for 18 mnths jst 2 weeks ago and this is where he made a mistake) as their business monopolies restricts the built in orange android OS to be upgraded to other available open source android versions while all other smart phones running on android OS (either gingerbread or froyo) could be easily upgraded to latest OS version as per an individuals will however this is not the case with orange san francisco.

To me touch screen seems quite impressive with useful compass, gps, orientation sensor however there are lots of useless software which makes it difficult to use even making it slow and also lacks functionality. But orange san francisco as per its price is jst an entry level android (as mentioned above) but to me it seems quite impressive while battery (Oh my god it really sucks), os 2.1 and 3.2mp camera are totally rubbish. However to individuals opting for a budget friendly android this phone is not that bad.

You can install cyanogen mod on it and get a newer version of Android. ZTE Skate looks interesting, it is scheduled for Q4 (I forgot what Orange calls it).

I have a San Francisco, it's a great phone for the money. However, I've had mixed results from the HFT.

It does pair (might take some persistence), but outgoing calls do not always connect correctly. When calling an engaged number, the call usually fails, without the engaged tone to indicate why. Then if I try and call directly on the phone, the call doesn't go straight to the HFT (I think a previous phone did pass it to HFT, even if dialled through the phone). Not tried 'transfer call' yet.

It's not just the OSF with issues though, with another Android handset, I've also had to pair by making the phone find the car, rather than the car finding the phone.

I have yet to test it thoroughly, and I don't do much driving, so it's not critical for me. I'll probably upgrade the Android software, which might change things (better or worse!). Currently using a 2.2 ROM (Swedish Spring).

Thanks, this is what I wanted to know before I bought one.

I stick with my trusty Nokia 6300 that pairs and works perfectly

I'll do some more testing.

I was using it the day after I wrote that, and it worked perfectly. Incoming and outgoing calls (via saying 'redial') all connected, no problem.

Once the initial pairing is made, it does connect each time and displays the phone icon. In my experience, the initial pairing can take some perseverance and that is with a number of handsets, not just Android.

Agree, the trick seems to be to get both the car and the phone both searching for each other at the same time.
