My 07 plate Type-R has just been through some electronic probs.
A few weeks ago on my way to work, the VSA light came up for about 5 seconds then went out. that triggered the engine management light to come up so drove it straight to the dealers. Diagnostic done, two historic fault codes found, reset and told it was OK.
Two days later, start the car up and before turning a wheel, most of the lights came up. VSA, PAS, ABS, seatbelt, handbrake yada yada yada. all went out and again engine management light came on, so off i go straight back to the dealers. They had it again for the day and said it needed a new micu unit. Honda were prepared to pay for it but i would have to pay labour. New part fitted the next day, and i leave the dealership. 500 yards down the road and all the lights come up again, so turn around and go straight back to the dealership. Leave the car with them again they have a good look over it and they do a software update. this did not fix the problem so they lent me a car and kept mine over the weeekend. On Monday they tried a rev counter gauge from another car and took it for a long drive, came back and plugged it in and found no fault codes so this part seemed to fix the problem. Now this time Honda would only pay towards half the cost and again i would have to pay the labour. New part arrives the next day and is fitted. Now so far, 3 weeks later and the car is still fine.
Original Diagnostic check £45.
The Micu unit was £270 (paid for by Honda)
The Rev counter Gauge was £400 of which i had to pay £200 (£200 paid by Honda)
& fitting for both of these parts were £80 + Vat = £93 each time.
Makes my total bill for this Fault £431.
Lucky for me the car was only 7 months out of warranty and has 37K on the clock.
The only thing now is that i have a micu unit on the car that is more likely to go wrong than my original part. Apparently from 08 plates onwards the Micu unit could cause these electronic fault codes to come up. Thats why Honda paid for the part just in case it was also affecting 07 plate ones too.
Hope this info may help with any probs.
