You can use the + in the ciggy lighter as a remote signal, because it is on when the car is on, and it is off when te car is off. So your amp/sub will switch on when you turn your key to position I. Strictly it's not like a real remote, because that is on only when te HU is on, but it does the job.
Don't use the ciggy lighter plug for power though, it is far to weak for the huge currents the sub will need.
You will only need the RCA adapter, also called LOC (Line Output Converter), if your sub/amp does not have a "high" input. Such a "high" input can handle the signal from the speaker wires directly. If the sub/amp only has an RCA input, you need to get a LOC to wire in between the speaker wires and the amp's input. Get a decent one if you need one, there is lots of cheap crap out there!
