Mirror problems

My nearside wing mirror has stopped folding completely in.It will get to between a quarter and three quarters of the way in then stop, but when i put the key in the ignition on my next trip, the mirror then folds the rest of the way!I have seen threads on here but couldn't find anything to say whether it would be safe to fold the mirror in by hand when i get out of the car or not.Never having had a car with this feature before i'm a bit clueless!Any help, much appreciated.Tim

My mirror got knocked once and became half way stowed.

Pushed the button and it folded the rest of the way in then there was an almighty crack/click sort of noise.

Still works fine though so no permanent damage was done.

So yes, the mirror can be pushed in by hand, but whether it's safe to do so over a long period of time, I don't know.

But if the motors on its way out anyway, does it really matter?
