I want a spare key please help lol

as above when i bought my 2006 civic it only had one key, now me being paranoid always like to have a spare. I just phoned honda and they want over 200 for the remote key or 45 for a normal key. I thought thats easy i will just get the normal key but apparently if the car gets locked by the remote key i have and then i lost my key the normal one cant open the car? is this right? if so whats the point in having a non remote key

That can't be right. The non remote key should open the door no problem.

Might set the alarm off though? Not sure.

How long ago did you buy the car? You should really have been given two keys.

A normal key will open the door but will set the alarm off - I'm not sure if you can start the car while the alarm is sounding, even with the key.

Where did you buy the car, when did you get it - you could still demand a spare key from the seller

i bought myself a 2 button blank key from ebay around a fiver, just type in honda blank and you easily find one, then got the blade cut for 6.00, then bought a second hand key with the same part number stamped on the back of my key (ebay again) about 15.00, swapped the internals from old to new (easy just one tiny screw). finally took it to honda to have it programmed to my car 40.00. So looking around 65.00ish in total, still a lot for a key i suppose, but cheap compared to one from honda or having to have 2 sets done should you ever lose your only key,
hope that helps

i didnt have a white bit on my key, it was basically a serial number stamped into the plastic part a few letters and numbers, i have'nt got the key with me so cant tell you exactly, best thing to do if you find one on ebay is to just ask the seller what the number is if they havent listed already.

With your oringinal manual and service book, you should have the code for replacement keys etc.

Hmmm, I've looked in my service book and the key code is K719. Is that the part number you're referring to above?
Thanks

No, that's the key code specific to your car. I wouldn't post it on an open forum if I were you.

The part number would be on the key somewhere.
