Air conditioning relay missing!

Hey guys.

Had my air conditioning system serviced and re-gassed today. Before the checks on the system even began, the air conditioning system wouldn't even start up. It turns out that the relay for the compressor was missing. I had the car from Bassetts Honda in Bridgend in September last year which means that the relay was missing at the point of sale.

The place that did my air conditioning managed to supply a temporary relay from a Ford or a Renault and charged me 12 for it.

Where do I stand with claiming for a new relay and to be reimbursed for the cost? If the relay had failed then that's wear & tear, but it's obvious that this part was missing from when I picked the car up but only today it had been noticed.

I'd be more interested as to why it's been removed! It's not something that falls out or you wake up and say 'I know, I'll remove my ac relay today'.

Id go back to the dealer and ask them why it's been taken out... It sounds like a trick a dealer would do to hide something!

Or there is the possibility the previous owner was a complete tight wad and removed it thinking (mistakenly!) they can save fuel/
Money!

Just got off the phone to the Bridgend dealership and they said they'll fit a new one in for free and pass the issue to the dealer manager when he's back in work next.

I'm definitely going to ask them why it was removed - if it was purely just to put it in another car or if it was to hide any issues.

I doubt it was to hide anything, they must have known it would come back to them.

I think you're right, they probably robbed it for another car and forgot to replace it

Will be good to hear what they have to say though, keep us updated

Or... the car previously was in an accident and had to have new A/C condensor and / or rad and they forgot to replace the relay.

Just been to the Bridgend dealership. They replaced the Ford (LOL) relay with a proper Honda one and the complaint will be passed on to the general manager when he arrives back next week. They were a bit confused as well as to why it was missing in the first place. Not the end of the world, but hey!

The technician walked away shaking his head (LOL) so he's either really confused himself or I made a pain of myself down there.

EDIT: One of the technicians suggested that it could have gone missing since I bought the car?? I don't think so as this area hasn't been touched and the only garage the car has seen is Bassetts Honda in Swansea. I hope they weren't trying to pin this one on me! I've logged a complaint with Honda Customer Relations and they'll be escalating the complaint further. Surely if the dealership did their checks on the car before I bought it, then surely the missing relay would have been noticed? I just hope I won't come across more issues with the car o.O

Where is the relay for the AC?
My AC doesn't always work and i'm wondering if my relay has worn out.
Cheers

Update: Had a call from Honda's head office this morning (I think it was from one of the managers up there). Can't remember the lady's name, but she apologised for what had gone on and Honda are reimbursing me for the 12 She also said that she'll be contacting the dealership to find out what's going on, because the dealer claims that the car was checked over before I bought it and the air conditioning unit is one of the areas that they check, so something isn't right.

I'll post more info as it comes.

Hi there. I have just replaced mine (relay) as after regas my air con (at kwik-fit)-still did not work. I managed to find all the responsible fuses/relays and its fuse no. 7 under the bonnet and no. 10, I think, under the dashboard. Relay is black with 4 pins (fuse box under bonnet); fuse no. 7 is the one just below the relay-7.5 Amps. The grey relay is, I believe, for fans control.
Cheers

My air con was re-gassed about 6 weeks ago and has been working fine, however over the last few days when it's been hot it's stopped working.

Today, it started working again but it was much cooler outside. Does this sound like the relay needs replacing?

No, it sounds odd to me. More like some sensor has failed or its due to. Any DTC's? And You can check the relay using a multimeter. Just need 12V power supply.

It's certainly odd, the fan speed increases and recirc comes on as though it's trying to cool it down, just cold air doesn't come out of the vents.

Today though , all worked as it should.
