Auto wipers, are they intelligent?

Just wondered how intelligent the auto wipers are. My old Pug 407 had auto wipers. If they were left on when leaving the car, they would not operate in auto mode again until the stalk was moved from auto back to auto, WHY I hear you say.....

Simply, if its winter time and you are using your wipers, then get out of the car and go into the house, next morning its a hard frost, wipers stuck down..if they start it could be damage..

Is the civic like this?

i have mine off all the time due to what you are saying julio, if i go out on a frosty morning with the wipers set on auto, they will scrape across the windows. not overly intelligent in my opinion.

+1

In some cases this has been known to blow the motors and damage the ECU/MICU

It is clearly written in the user's manual... Too bad nobody reads it...

Auto wipers and auto lights, I just don't see the point of them. Personally, I am intelligent enough to know when I need my lights, and my wipers, I don't need the car to do it for me.

Auto lights are pointless IMO, I never use them.

I find auto wipers handy when it's raining very slightly. Just turn them to auto and leave them instead of constantly switching between intermitant and off.

+1. We have a lot of that in Belgium. Drove me mad in the old car sometimes. Automatic stuff is good for the less concentrated in traffic, aka my wife.

They work fine most of the time. Plus the sensitivity can be adjusted, unlike some other cars (e.g. neighbour's RAV4).

Of course they work and are quite useful. I find the wiper speed adjustment based on the car's speed and amount of rain to be very nice.

But then, on the same principle presented above, some people still prefer starting the engine using a handle rather than a button.

Auto wipers are only as intelligent as the interface positioned between the steering wheel and the drivers seat
