Warning light on starting up?

Over the last week or two, I've been getting a warning on the trip display when I start the car. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, I start the engine, and the warning lights up orange in the middle of the display, and it makes a chime. Then, as quick as I look at it, it vanishes, and I can't tell what has caused it.

I've noticed the VSA icon on to the right of the rev display, but like every time I start, it flashes off after a second or two, and can't make a conclusive connection to it causing the warning.

Had my 56 Civic Sport 1.8 since April, and can't say I was aware of this happening up until recently.

Also, now and again, very intermittently, the car doesn't turn over right when you push the start button, and I need to turn the ignition off and back on then restart the car, and it labours slightly to do so before firing.

Any suggestions on these? Not got enough experience with the car to know what the problem is.

Will try and spot it, it's on and back off so quickly I've never noticed a message, just the beep and an exclamation mark in the centre of the display.

It did it again today, beeped briefly with the orange exclamation mark in the centre of the display. Only other light on was VSA as usual, which went off as normal after a second or two. No other message was displayed.

Do the error code trick thing with a piece of foil and tell us the errors, then we might be able to help mate,

Mine does the same very occasionally. It is cured on mine by pressing start immediately after turning the key, without delay.

Boot up ECU systems test after ignition on.
VSA and ABS are being tested.
Normal to go out after test.

Charge the battery too just in case.

Yup, noticed it this morning, looked like the handbrake icon.

What's the error code trick? And how do you do the ECU test? Sorry, pretty much a newbie with the Civic.

I get the same thing. The battery shows the blue ring suggesting it is fine. The car has not failed to start and the exclamation mark appears when starting the engine but disappears as quick as it appears.
