Double DIN & Navigation

Hi guys
This is my first post and I want to say hello to all of You.

I'm going to buy my first car sometime mid June and it is going to be Honda Civic 1,6 diesel. Later on I'm planning to buy either Pioneer or Kenwood 7" Navigation and here are few question I'd like to ask You?

1) Can I fit double DIN in Honda Civic?
2) Which of these two would You recommend more and why:
Pioneer: AVIC-F60DAB High-end 2 DIN Car CD,DVD, GPS Navigation System with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 7
Kenwood: JVCKENWOOD Nederland B.V. | Navigation > DNX7250DAB
3) Is there any extra kit or connectors to fit these two above in Civic?
4) Where should I go to install any of those navigations, to Honda service or should I upgreade it by myself with a help of tutorial or some specialised car audio dealer?

Thanks for any help provided!

Yes.

Honestly, both are fine, I would choose the Pioneer because the brand is good, KENWOOD is not bad either. It seems that the KENWOOD uses Garmin for mapping which should be reliable. The Pioneer has CarPlay for iPhone if you are into that (with firmware update).

Yes. You need a steering wheel control and the new fascia and some CANBUS box connectors.

Go to a audio car specialist, you need to do some soldering with the wires if you want the AV to work when the handbrake is down and it's much easier that way.

About your reply on question #3 and #4,
where do I get new fascia and those CANBUS connectors? Do audio car specialist already have that kind of equipment or I need to by that online and if so could someone provide me a link?

What is the problem with handbrake when it is down?

You can get the stuff from your audio specialist (well mine apparently could source it for me) but at an expensive price. I live in Australia and I could get it cheaper shipped from the UK. I got mine on eBay here:

HONDA Civic 2012> Car Stereo Double Din Fascia Installation Fitting Kit CTKHD06

You need to specify the patch lead so that you can retain the steering wheel controls. So make up your mind which brand you want before you buy this, each brand has different patch leads.

The handbrake "problem" isn't a problem per se, but these head units can't watch DVD and view video unless you have stopped and have the handbrake up as a safety feature. You need to ground the handbrake wire so the head unit thinks the handbrake is always up.

Oh, I see now. As You've probably understood by now I'm a rookie in this domain.

Another question. How familiar are car audio specialist aware of this problem (or I would state it as a caution measure for the driver) in the way that they get the joob done the right way? Should I pinpoint them in car audio secvice that in the case they don't ground my handbrake wire my wife won't be able to watch Game of thrones wile I drive the car?

Oh, I'm sure you'll find trouble finding an audio specialist that doesn't know about this. I'll give you 100 dollars if you can find one that doesn't know about it

Just let them know when you want to install it that you want the handbrake bypass and they will just wire it up with the power cables. Easy job, but they may need to solider it

Thanks mate. You have been so helpfull. The only problem I see from now is the thing that on the Kenwood webpages seems that their model is not supported for Honda Civic as much as I can see. And I've found that here in Croatia Pioneer model is 500 USD more expensive than Kenwood one, and on UK & German Amazon the price is quite the same and I was not planning to give that kind of money for the Pionner. As far as I can see that there is not too much difference looking at specific sheet.

Does anyone know if this Kenwood can be installed to Honda Civic?

As far as I can see, I don't see why not. Where does it say it's not supported? As long it's a double (2 DIN) unit, it should be compatible. Navigation is nice on the KENWOOD as I have mentioned before, it's Garmin based so it should be good.

When I go to this page: JVCKENWOOD Nederland B.V. | Double-DIN Installation List
and when I choose Honda then there is a table that shows up with all the Honda models but there is no Civic there.

I think that's just a list of cars that have the double DIN fascia built in where it's just a straight swap. This model works with the Civic as long as you buy the replacement fascia off eBay too. KENWOOD assumes that there is no double DIN space available since the standard unit is custom.

Oh, all right. I get it now. But they told me in Honda service that they offer replacment fascia for double DIN and I asked them about the price and they told me that it is only 60 USD. That's cheap if You ask me.

That is quite good price, but remember you also need the ISO connectors, CANBUS box and patch leads. It MAY be cheaper to get all of it on eBay with the fascia but go around and check prices.

And yes, finally... I've become a proud owner of my new Honda Civic!

Actually my wife is

Now it is time for navigation and several more questions.
As for now I have chosen to go with Kenwood DNX-7250DAB mostly cos its got Garmin navigation.
Now, the dealer told me that there may be problems with steering wheel controls and that he won't be able to know will they work until he connects it all to the unit. Now guys, what is your experience with aftermarket units (kenwood especially), do does controls work and what about bluetooth buttons (pick up/hang), will they work also? And what about I button (info button that is situated on top above Volume up button), will it be able to change between menus on I-MID screen (average consumption, clock, system settings, etc.) or not?

Thanks for any help provided yet again...

Check this out...

GENUINE CIVIC KIT

It's everything needed to fit an aftermarket double din head unit. Just select the patch lead for Kenwood and if you have a 1.6d or premium audio you will need the amplifier harness as well. The website also does a cheaper kit with the non-genuine fascia.

With regards to the controls on the steering wheel, the source skip and volume will work if you get the patch lead above. The I button will still function the I-mid and the I-mid will just have a blank where the audio information is displayed with an aftermarket head unit. It looks absolutely fine and no one would notice anything was missing. I've heard the Bluetooth buttons no longer function but I don't have factory Bluetooth so not certain.

The Kenwood deck is very nice. I suggest you get a 2din dummy cover plate to "hide" the unit when the car is parked in a dodgy area.
