Bluetooth Alerts

My phone (HTC One m9) connects to the head unit perfectly via Bluetooth and all is working as it should.

However, I have an app on the phone that is constantly monitoring and when an event is triggered it is supposed to send out a verbal alert, but is silent.

I know the event is being triggered because the phone display is changing.

Is it possible to listen to the radio and have the phone interrupt the radio to play the alert via the car speakers ?

I'd be happy to lose HFT as I don't use the phone as a phone whilst driving anyway.

I remember that on both my Civics some apps would interrupt the audio source. It worked well and quickly, the only this was the iMID would change to look like it was receiving a call, but would quickly return to previous screen, so no big issues.

If your app is not doing it by default, then you may have to change a setting (Sygic calls it route audio via bluetooth)

Is it tasker you are using? If so and you are using the 'Say' command, then change 'Stream' option.. to 'call' ... should work.

Well done Bog, I was trying to recall how Sygic directed the output.

No, it's CamerAlert.

It has 3 options:

Default (the one that stayed silent)
Device Speaker
Bluetooth Headset

I'll give BTH a whirl next time I'm out.

interesting... i've not have much luck on my 9g unit with that type of notification. i figured you needed the HU in bluetooth source for it to work.

i might have another play with this now i know it might be possible!

are you on the Connect system, kremmen?

Thanks P

BT works OK, however, due to a bug in CamerAlert it plays at full volume = ouch.

Apparently CA is supposed to be releasing a new version but they said that a year ago, still nothing.

I'll stick to the Garmin, using the same database, for the time being.

I have cameralert on my iPhone. Only use when on long trips but I'm sure it worked through speakers via Bluetooth ok. I'll try it next time I'm out in car.

Cant you adjust the app volume with the phones volume buttons when audio is playing via BT?

That seems to be the last option.

It's sending the audio out at full volume. The issue is that I can't fiddle with the controls while driving and the problem is that it only fires into life when I'm approaching a speed camera.

I need to find some other app that will play via the car BT when stationary so I can fiddle.

Having played with it a bit found two routes to altering volume.
1. Via music symbol
2. Via warnings in settings

Still not tried it yet as not been in car. But will try Bluetooth setting when I do as if memory serves me before it was the phones speaker blaring out the cameras.

Now tried Bluetooth Via speakers. Didn't like it, interfered with connect. Alsorts popped up when she was yammering about cameras. Will stick to phone speakers.

That settings display looks nothing like mine on CamerAlert !

When I select 'default' as the audio output then the audio volume slider works in as much as the confirmation beep increases/decreases, but, in operation, when a camera warning is issued, zilch, no warning, silent. Under 'device speaker' or 'bluetooth headset' it makes no difference as it's max volume.

I need to investigate further.

Silly question but you do have pre warning set to a voice or other and not silent ?

Yes it's all set correctly. Checked and double checked.

I'm not the only one to report this issue. It seems to have crept in either with newer phones/Android versions/bluetooth versions.

No big deal at the moment because I use my Garmin for the alerts but would be nice to have an alternative.

I think we have a result.

I downloaded a music track to the phone. Went out to the charabang and got it playing via BT.

That gave me the opportunity to set the volume level as it was continually available during playback.

Then using the BT output setting on CA it is now considerably quieter.

Just need a live test to see if it's worked.

Hope so

What I'm hoping it will do is temporarily mute the radio for the few seconds when it issues a camera warning via the car speakers.

Be nice to get it working as CA cameras are directional whereas Garmin warn you regardless of the direction the camera is trapping

Thats how it should work... It will also pop up the 'in call' screen for a couple of seconds on the iMID... This you can do nothing about, but not a big hassle.
