Connect unit resume music playback

is it meant to resume music tracks between car starts?

i'd say 95% of the time it'll start the next track every time the ignition is switched on. the odd time it'll resume. car does typically get left for many hours between restarts - overnight or at work. maybe shopping and refuels account for the other 5%? i've not noticed much of a pattern between when it wants to resume and not.
i'd say it's not much of a problem for individual tracks, but i have a decent selection of 1hour+ mixes so typically only listen to the first 30-40mins before it'll skip.

is there an audio format that does resume correctly on the unit?
I only listen to music on USB, which is a 32gb Transcend pendrive fat32 formatted.

My unit resumes all the time. Try with tracks that are regular 3-4 min; maybe the buffer doesn't support more than a couple of minutes.

a buffer did cross my mind, wasn't sure if they were used during playback.
i'll experiment a bit more to see if it's track length or not..

its worse than i thought.

even normal length tracks do it.
if i turn the car off part way through track1, after a few hours it'll skip to the start of track 3. it always seems to skip the track immediately after the half-finished track.
If i try to test it after 15mins, it'll always resume track1 regardless of it's length.

i'm going to try another USB drive. While the Transcend V70 32gb stick i currently use isn't exactly slow, i'm going to try a spare Kingston DT Workspace which is essentially SSD in a pen drive.

i also tried different filesystem types on the V70 drive; seems the Connect unit dislikes both ext3 and ext4 - fat32 only (I havent tried ntfs or exfat).

The kingston ssd-pendrive resumed fine eariler today, but not this afternoon! inserted it about 10am and it resumed fine on one of the 2h mixes when i retested about 3:30pm (5.5hour)

just been out in it since parking up (about 3hours gap) and next track was played, no resume!

Thanks Frank. Since you've had so much success, i've tested a few other possibilities and converted a known problematic track (one of the 2hour mixes) mp3's into flac via audacity. Straight forward export with default settings and things seem good. One track is now at 90mins playtime, started it yesterday morning and resumed 3 times including this morning.

assuming it resumes ok at home time, i think i can put it down to something with the original mp3 file.

flac seems to work fine so far but due to my 44.1kHz/24bit encoding settings it is generating 4-5x filesizes vs the mp3. since they are 128kbps mp3's, i'm pretty sure i can reduce the flac quality without affecting playback quality.
I've also ran mp3 > mp3 encode job via ffmpeg overnight with the same files but i need to copy and test those to a usb drive.

Are you running the mp3's from the original HU? Is it the premium audio system? If not i wouldn't bother converting the files to more than 128kb as you won't heat the difference because of the HU. I plan upgrading it to an android HU + a class D 4x45 rms ampplifier in the near future...

yes to both; ran from HU and it's the Connect unit with premium audio.
your right with conversion - source is 128kbit anyway, so going higher wont add anything.

so far since rewriting the mp3's, i've not had any issues with resuming so obviously a bad encode on the source files.

have you seen the types of amp classes? Car Amplifiers: Car Amps | Rockford Fosgate - bottom of page shows the differences between them. ClassD has distortion on higher frequencies so ideal for sub amps. not sure if distortion is audible to the human ear, but worth looking into if you weren't aware of it.
fwiw, i run classAB for midrange, and a classD for sub, but that was mostly down to budget than a conscious decision for that class.

I am starting to build my audio system bit by bit as i don't have much time and money. So far i have bought: focal pc165 coax + sound deadning for the rear doors (installed them) and front focal components which i haven't had the time to do it + i need to purchase more sound deadnig for the front doors. I have spent quite a lot of time looking at the small class D amps such as Alpine ktp 445 or Sony & Pioneer equivalents. I've read only good reviews about them and will have to buy o e si ce the oem Hu is a P.S. My colleague has a Skoda Fabia and that hu is far better in sound quality than this one.
P.S i had the chance to "hear" a Harman Kardon this weekend in a 2017 JEEP ... it gave me goosebumps

good luck with the install.
i did look at replacing the 9g HU for ease and quality, but half of the convertor cables (autoleads/connects2) don't support the Connect system and thus i'd loose far to many intergrated systems.

sound deadening is something i might do in the future, but i'll be done big... doors, floor, boot and roof. obviously means a LOT of trim has to be removed so thats putting me off a bit.
