Ignition Live

Got a dashcam to fit and also want to hard wire my sat nav. Thought Id piggy back off the fuse for one of the cig lighters. So I made a earth, and connected the dash cam to the cig lighter fuse. But it wouldnt turn off, even when I turned the ignition off.

The cig lighter comes on when the ignition is on.

The only thing I can think of is that the police is constant and that it has an ignition earth. So, I either need to find a fuse that is ignition live (not ignition earth) or find an easy way of tapping into the same earth wire as the cig lighter or another ignition earth item...

Can anyone give any pointers?

Ta
Rob

Dig out the 'Option Connector' thread.

I've done exactly what you are trying to do with my Dashcam and Garmin. My Garmin springs into life with ignition position 1 and my Dashcam with ignition position 2.

Far better solution than piggybacking.

Almost

The physical connector is the same but some of the pin outs are different. It's all covered in the OC thread.

If you have a 9G look for my posts as mine is a 9G.

Is there a wiring diagram for the fuse location without option connector?

I have found that fuse no 19 ACC turns on with ignition for anyone using a tap in fuse.

The fuse locations are in the manual.
