Question 2012 to 2016 HU

Hi,

After looking at the price of a map update for the Alpine HDD system (and then being resuscitated), I've looked at switching it out. Especially as Honda are no longer doing updates for it so the most recent is from 2017. I've looked at aftermarket solutions but Connects2 don't appear to do an adapter for units with Navigation and I don't want to lose the integration, ideally.

So, does anyone know if it's possible to switch the old Alpine unit with a newer Honda Connect system? If so, will it work with the i-mid\reverse camera\steering wheel controls etc?

Thanks, Rich.

I can't answer your question however if it was me in your position I'd be looking into ways to update the map in your existing unit

I'm sure if you search you'll be able to find map updates, just because Honda don't supply them any more doesn't mean they aren't available. Alpine must supply units for other cars as well.

Hi,

Maps for the HDD unit are dealer-only, as they are coded to the VIN and only work on one vehicle unfortunately. I'm not going to pay 185 for maps which are already well out of date, I'd rather pay a bit more for something I can update at will.

There are usually ways around this though, that was the point I'm making

I can download and generate keys for the satnav maps on my BMW using freely available knowledge and tools on the web. I am sure there are people who have done exactly the same thing with Honda / Alpine units.

If such a thing exists I've been unable to find it. Looking at XDA-Devs, the Connect unit seems to be hackable but nothing for the older Alpine as it doesn't run Android.

Oh well.

Nothing on there. It looks like no-one has ever managed it, or no-one has ever tried.

So, back to the original question. Will the newer Connect unit fit, and work with i-mid/camera etc?

Thanks,

R

It's the Honda OEM Premium Audio unit. The only model number I can find for it is...

39540-TV0-E220-M1

...which I assume is a Honda number rather than Alpine.
