keyfob not working

hi guys my wife took my car keys to work by mistake. so i went to get my spare key from my handbook but that didnt work so i thought the battery was flat got a taxi to halfords and put the battery in when i got back it still wont work. comes up on the dash with a symbol of a key. the spare key has never been used at all is there a some thing i need to reset to get it to work tx

yep, you need to take the car and key to a dealer and have the key re-programmed.

If this is a 9th Gen civic then it is quite disgraceful that the spare key needs re-programming already
