Arrow My Fn2 Type R, 1 year on. From noob to idiot

Hi guys,

Background:

I got my Type R just over a year ago. I had never owned a performance car, but have always had a thing for Type Rs.

At first I was going to go for a 2017 Type R, had a test drive and loved it. The problem with it though, I knew if I bought a brand new one, then I would have no motivation to customise it. So I started looking for EP3s but couldn't find any under 100k miles so settled on FN2s.

The one I brought, despite having yearly services, wasn't really that well looked after, lots of rust underneath, brakes needed a good clean, original discs complete with a sizeable lip and a broken A/C Compressor but I brought it anyway since I planned to do it up.

Literally 10mins to the second after I brought it (Got it insured on the spot!) some numpty when right into the drivers side of me at a roundabout! He was a right A**hole and was screaming at me like it was my fault, while I was simply asking if he was alright.

Luckily, my wife who was ahead of me and had a rear dashcam, caught the whole incident. Came back no fault for me but for about 4 months after that I was terrified of the car and constantly questioning myself and it completely ruined any enjoyment of my new car

Once I got my confidence back and the insurance company cleared me of fault I set to work, I should say I knew nothing about cars, couldn't change a tire and phases like 2.0 and catback meant nothing, To me mechanics were like wizards.

It has been very slow going, having to watch and re-watch youtube videos all the time and handing over to my local garage from time to time when something had me stuck, but one year on and I am learning by doing, which is awesome because coming from a place with absolutely no point of reference was damn hard at first

Current Mods:

HKS RSK RACING SUCTION INTAKE
MARTELIUS CAT BACK (Loud AF! Hated it for ages, until I used flashpro and it started to sound more like a performance exhaust, instead of an angry ferret
TEGIWA CARBON FIBRE VENTED BONNET
Hondata Group N flash, made a massive difference. Don't be put off by the price, absolutely worth it!
1200 watt sound system with dual kicker subs and Sony xav ax100
Short Shifter
Mugen gear knob
New discs, hal braided lines, rebuilt / painted calipers
Team dynamics alloys
Michelin pilot 4 sports tyres
Mugen lookalike spoiler
Pro silicone hoses
Sustec Bonnet struts
Mugen carbon fibre grill
Tegiwa Canards
A ton of vinyl! I suck at it but I am getting better
Plus lots of little bits and bobs here and there.

Waiting to be fitted: (Some parts still to arrive)

SKUNK2 LOWERING SPRINGS 25-30mm
Japspeed Radiator
MISHIMOTO HOSE KITS (Radiator)
Whiteline-Front-Rear-Anti-Roll-Bar-Kit front and back
OMP Upper Strut Braces front and back
Handmade Rubber tire lettering, I will probably post about this if anyone is interested in how it turns out)

Nice to see your enjoying it but you were better of with a new FK2R/8 imo.

Good to hear someone getting their hands dirty.

After owning mine I went from barely changing my bulbs to doing a fair chunk (minus gearbox and engine internals for now). Always satisfying when you DIY and it works afterwards
Farqui and Vj4sothername like this.

Heh, I don't know, I made the right choice I think, factoring in the price of the new ones, I can upgrade my FN2 past 600bhp

Yeah, I'm really enjoying learning tbh, at times its completely maddening, but being able to look and feel when you've fixed or upgraded something is really rewarding.

Ah, thanks very much. To be honest, most of what I've done so far is pretty dodgy and if you look close enough, you can see the errors I've made, but I'm learning to do better with each screw up, so there is that!
