From Athens Greece to the Nurburgring!

Just returned from a 10 day 4000km trip from Greece to Nurburg and back in my FN2.
Its been a dream of mine to go to the nurburgring since I first read about it in a magazine 10 years ago.

The trip consisted of me and my dad. Somehow I convinced him to do the trip when my friends couldnt make it.
Thanks so much dad (and sorry for scaring you senseless in your 1 lap as passenger heheh)!!!

Trip went like this:
Athens, Greece--->Patras, Greece
Patras--->Venice, Italy (31 hours by ferry)
Venice--->Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich--->Nurburg, Germany

Zurich--->Parma, Italy--->Rome--->Ancona--->Patras--->Athens

Car had a GruppeM intake, flashpro, and Ferodo DS2500pads and a brand new set of RE050 Potenzas (not so new now after 15 laps of the Nurburgring).

I did 5 laps on the public days and a full trackday! Also rented a new M3 (420hp SMG etc) for 6 laps... awesome!

Heres the pics!
31 hours on the ferry!

Arriving at Venice

Driving through Switzerland

Destination Nurburgring!

Hotel Am Tiergarten owned and run by the Schmitz family - (family of racing driver Sabine Schmitz)

Hotel Room View: The road at at the end of the field is the end of the Nordschleife straight! Wake up at 8AM every morning to hear roaring engines driving past

Parking Lot of the hotel (empty now as it was Porsche of Sweden trackday and all the cars were at the racetrack)

My first lap ever: It was sunny Saturday afternoon, and there were about 500+ cars waiting for the track to open after an accident. Managed 1 lap in what seemed like chaos with hundred of cars on the track. Another accident closed the track early for the rest of the day.

Cars waiting to do another lap (Im in there somewhere) before track was closed early for the day, due to another accident.

Some pics from the Nurburgring shopping-mall-building- place lol.

GTR V-spec...

Current record holder for "road legal car"..... yeah right, technically it is road legal but the lap record doesnt really count IMO. Radical SR3.

Pics from the museum. Awesome cars, lots of gadgets to play around with and buttons to press

BMW SMG gearbox. Change gears and see what happens inside the gearbox: how cool is that?

Me and my dad racing each other on the nurburgring GP circuit in F1 cars

A truck racing simulator. The whole windscreen was actually a monitor, and the truck rested on 6 hydraulic jacks simulating acceleration, braking, bumps, crashes etc... was mega fun.

Me and my instructor from RSR. He has more than 2500 laps at the ring and works at the Nurburgring for 10+ years. Pretty cool going around blind corners and blind crests with my foot planted on the gas unless he said brake! He also took my for a lap in my car to show what it was capable of... WOW, going through corners he passed all sorts of faster cars, pretty much no one overtook us! He was also very impressed with the cars handling and didnt expect it to be so good Used RSR to book trackday, some instruction from the passenger seat, and rent an M3! Highly recommended: Home of 'ring rentals and instruction

Karussell!

Booking a trackday is by far the best way to get the most out of the ring.

Also got some nice full-HD 1080p video of my laps And I managed to get under 10 min (without instructor)! Woohoo!! Will upload them soon.

Wow looks like a great trip! The moving photo of your CW is ! How did you manage to get out of your car in the ferry? They look a bit too close for comfort..I'm suspecting door dints parking that close! Or am i missing something?!

Edit: Look at the size of those brakes on the 458..!

Some pics from the return:

In Switzerland heading towards the 17km Gotthard tunnel!

In Parma, Italy

Free Parking FTW!

It wasnt a planned part of the trip, but on the way from Parma to Rome, I noticed on the GPS Modena was nearby. Used the GPS to locate tourist attractions nearby and I found Galleria de Ferrari in the village of Maranello!

One of my favorite cars of all time. F40

Ferrari Factory

Cool Village in Tuscany worthy of a photo

On the ferry from Ancona to Patras: For those that read Greek: Super Translation Fail. An officer saw me taking pictures of the sign and told me he knew about it, and politely asked me not to publish the pic. HAHAHAH Mind the step has been literally translated to Greek and makes no sense whatsoever! LOL

Yeah it was a bit nerve racking seeing my car parked in there!
To exit each line of cars had to reverse out before you could enter your car. Car survived without any marks

hehe He actually has some 500+hp Audi RS6 V10 Twin turbo or something. And races a 400 hp FWD Opel Astra racecar around the ring.
But he enjoyed the car and was genuinely impressed which made me proud of my little civic

Wow what a great trip. I really enjoyed looking at the pics. Not sure i would like to take my car on a ferry if they pack them in so tightly.

I recently drove from Athens to Lefkada and back but not in my car unfortunately. I was very impressed with the new bridge at Patras. Its an amazing structure.

A 9:45 lap Yeah I know Im doing about 200 at the bridge (starting point) but its good enough for me

Gear up changes werent that great, as I still wasnt used to the new throttle pedal mapping. I bought Flashpro and the car was dyno-tuned the very same morning on the day I left Greece, with nothing but motorway miles to get used to it. The higher rev-limit, much more responsive pedal and no more rev hang made the gearchanges feel much different, and only now have I truly gotten used to it. Ok, enough with the excuses, heheheh.
Thank you Geartech for sorting me out on such short notice.

Driving the ring that first day really was nerve racking, trying to concentrate on driving, the correct lines, whats over or around that blind crest or turn, and also constantly checking your mirror for insanely fast cars about to pass you including full blown VLN race cars practicing. Some of the teams were actually practicing pit-stops in the parking lot: yanking one driver out, replacing him and all 4 wheels in 30 seconds before blasting out again.
Oh yeah and knowing I had to get the car out in 1 piece to drive it back home.
