My new 2006 CTDi EX!

Hi guys!

Well after months of searching around and many hours spent sifting through info and advice on here (which may I add is a great site!), I finally picked up a 2006 CTDi EX yesterday which I had actually put a deposit down on nigh on 2 weeks ago. I've only got the one picture (attached) at the moment but will get some better ones this week

First impressions are really good. Obviously I've driven one before but not for a massive distance, so the first journey in it being back to Swindon from Peterborough meant a good opportunity to get a much better feel for it. With the 18" wheels on it it's quite a frim ride but still forgiving enough to not be too concerned about fairly sharp humps and hollows in the road.

I've come from a Golf GT TDi which was chipped and had an uprated clutch kit on, so getting used to the differnet way this diesel unit pulls will take me a few weeks I think. It certainly got adequate grunt for everyday driving but I wouldn't say is particularly quick by any stretch of the imagination - I find it takes a while to pick up and runs out of puff pretty quickly in anything above 2nd. However I didn't buy it for performance, bought it for reliability and comfort as the Golf was an everyday liability that I couldn't live with anymore.

A few things have confused me already though - firstly, I can't stop the navigaiton instructions! I reached my destination (home), but now everytime I go out somewhere she is trying to direct me back home, only was I could stop her was to actually exit the navigation screen - surely I can just end the instructions and still view the map right?
Also, I got locked in the car yesterday! Turned the engine off and was playing around with the sat nav for circa 10 mins after which I turned the igniton off, went to get out but was locked in. Nothing would unlock it so I had to start the car up again and turn it off and I was allowed out......strange. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys, really looking forward to being part of this site over the coming years, as I said in my new member's thread there seem to be a lot of great people on here!

Thanks mate!

I've read alot of your help and advice on the forum over the past few weeks, especially around clutch and remap info, so thanks for sharing all your knowledge! It's certainly influenced my purchase. I'll no doubt have more questions around it so if you don't mind I may drop you a message nearer to the time I'm going to get it done!

Nine motor, looks good with the 18" storms don't see many on this site. I wanted to get them but couldn't find one at the time.

I also have the EX, but can't remember how to switch off the voice commands, there is a way. I keep forgetting, then just change screens to stop the voice.

But when you switch engine off and restart it should stop the voice and let you view the maps only.

Not sure about you getting locked in, there is a lock switch on the window switch panel to lock all doors internally.
