Well after months of searching around and many hours spent sifting through info and advice on here (which may I add is a great site!), I finally picked up a 2006 CTDi EX yesterday which I had actually put a deposit down on nigh on 2 weeks ago. I've only got the one picture (attached) at the moment but will get some better ones this week
First impressions are really good. Obviously I've driven one before but not for a massive distance, so the first journey in it being back to Swindon from Peterborough meant a good opportunity to get a much better feel for it. With the 18" wheels on it it's quite a frim ride but still forgiving enough to not be too concerned about fairly sharp humps and hollows in the road.
I've come from a Golf GT TDi which was chipped and had an uprated clutch kit on, so getting used to the differnet way this diesel unit pulls will take me a few weeks I think. It certainly got adequate grunt for everyday driving but I wouldn't say is particularly quick by any stretch of the imagination - I find it takes a while to pick up and runs out of puff pretty quickly in anything above 2nd. However I didn't buy it for performance, bought it for reliability and comfort as the Golf was an everyday liability that I couldn't live with anymore.
A few things have confused me already though - firstly, I can't stop the navigaiton instructions! I reached my destination (home), but now everytime I go out somewhere she is trying to direct me back home, only was I could stop her was to actually exit the navigation screen - surely I can just end the instructions and still view the map right?
Also, I got locked in the car yesterday! Turned the engine off and was playing around with the sat nav for circa 10 mins after which I turned the igniton off, went to get out but was locked in. Nothing would unlock it so I had to start the car up again and turn it off and I was allowed out......strange. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys, really looking forward to being part of this site over the coming years, as I said in my new member's thread there seem to be a lot of great people on here!
