Auto Braking

Had a weird experience last week. Was in a queue of traffic when the car Infront pulled away as I accelerated the car done an emergency stop and the brakes locked. Surprised I wasn't rear ended. Anyone else had this happen?

Similar. Cruise control set to 70, in the middle lane, overtaking left lane traffic. X5 driver decided to come into my lane without indication whilst doing about 10-15 mph less than me, approximately 7 metres in front of me. I know I could have veered into the outside lane without difficulty, but my car tried to stand itself on its nose. On the plus side...Good brakes on these Civics aren't they!

Ah, cut in braking works then. I haven't had the car do that on a motorway/dual C, but I have had it brake gently to maintain the gap under similar circumstances when someone has cut in on me, but probably no more than I would have done anyway. The car just beat me to it.

The only time I've had it brake pretty hard (ABS) is when a pedestrian walked out in front of me. The scrabbling of tyres and my air horns certainly made him pay attention to his surroundings instead of looking at his bloody phone.

Last year travelling up the M6 to Scotland had a camper van turn over right in front of me. The auto braking prevented an even more serious accident. I nearly filled my pants 😂

Mine hit the anchors the other day when I was trying to turn left behind a stationary car.

I just wish the adaptive cruise control was proper adaptive & brakes going down a hill. It'll brake when reducing the cruise control from 70 to 60 but it'll accelerate down hill. A bit of ***** coding me thinks.

There isn't enough hysteresis in the follow distance either. Mine is braking a lot of the time to maintain distance. So much so that I suspect anyone following thinks I am a bit of a dick on the brakes, so I switch it off.

Dont critisise my driving style of which you know nothing about.
As it happens I have the ACC set to its maximum separation which gives a gap of around 3 seconds which is a damn sight more than these stupid tail-gaters allow.
The problem is that if you only get a couple of yards closer than the ACC thinks you should be at, it applies the brakes instead of 'letting it roll to see what happens' even on the flat or a slight uphill stretch, whereby the car would slow enough to maintain the gap within a few seconds anyway. Just like you do when driving 'manually' (unless you are a tail gater who has to drive on your brakes).

Yep. If people with iThings will use those stupid iThing smileys, how are us mere mortals with PCs and Android phones supposed to read your emoticons.
Your last lot came out as.

Never mind when we are all being driven by autonomous vehicles the software will be soooooo good there will be no gaps, just like watching the US Secret Service drive convoy in the movies.

And a vast increase in brake pad sales if the Honda offering is anything to go by.
