I'm a long time member but been away from the brand for many many years.
I'm on the cusp of buying a 1.0 EX and was hoping some of you could share some actual feedback on the engine. Reviews seem mixed, some love and some hate.
So how is it? Real world economy figures would be helpful too please.
Welcome back.
I test drove a 1.0EX. It was a lovely drive and more than adequate for my needs. I then made the mistake of test driving the 1.5 Prestige. Within half an hour of arriving at the dealership, I had signed on the dotted line.
182 bhp in a body weighing less than 1500 kilos. Driven carefully, will return over 50 to the gallon. Unfortunately, I seem to be concentrating on smiles per gallon.
Go for the 1.5. It is superb!!
1.5 over the 1 litre anyday in my book, I didn't even consider the 1 litre when I bought my 10g, the larger engine is smooth, refined and I easily get 50 mpg on a run and average 44 just going to and from work which is 12 miles away on a mix of A and B roads, plus it pulls very well and has enough power to make overtaking as safe as it can be. Also factor the 1 litre has a cam belt to change and it's an expensive job from what I have read, the 1.5 is chain driven and requires no routine maintenance. If I were you I would drive both and look at all the pros and cons and make an informed decision.
I put a review of my 1 litre in the reviews section a few days ago, covered over 8000 miles in mine from new so feel I can answer any questions you have honestly.
Clueless answer there from FencePlank43. Hardly gutless, certainly not pointless and what weaker residuals? Not plagued with the niggles mentioned by others on here. Each to their own. The 1 litre is a good car, cheaper to insure and run.
Sure, some folks had/have issues. I've had just one. And even that was dongle-related, not the car itself. Rest of the car is totally flawless.
Sorry if you think my answer is "clueless" .
I drove the 1.0T and 1.5T extensively before settling on the Prestige.
So yes, the 1.0T is gutless and will have lower residuals in contrast to something like the Prestige too. As for insurance and running costs - thats subjective nonsense. Too many factors at play - such as if a person has points on licence, what those points are for (speeding etc or drink driving), as well as where a person lives (crime rates etc), how long a licence has been held, employment status.....the list goes on and on....
Same applies for running costs....thats down to how someone drives (sensibly/economically or otherwise).
I found the 1.0T was the same as the Prestige to insure. Sure, the 1.0T may be a good car for some, but hands down, the 1.5T will always be better for others.
So, two similar spec cars except one the smaller and one the larger engine, which one will need the greater lump of cash parting with to secure (and by how much), and after, say 3 years, which one of the two will have lost the greater lump of cash (and by how much)
Any figures realise would be nearest approximations !
I test drove a 1.0 CVT EX when I owned a 1.8 8G Civic manual, and it was 'very good'. But it was good in a way that at that time I was thinking - no road tax, relatively good performance, cheaper than 1.5 to purchase, good MPG (according to figures at least, real world seem to differ enormously) - Basically I let the sales guy pollute my own thoughts that afternoon.
After pondering and doing a bit of research for a couple of weeks whether it was right for me, I decided I don't want a new car that has less 'poke' than the one it's replacing, also it has a belt driven cam shaft - which my engineer father has always sworn against! So then I tried a 1.5 CVT - and the rest is history.
Without comparing to the 1.5, I was definitely impressed with the 1.0 - but it always came down to, it's great for a 1 litre engine... you'd always know there's a 1.5 available... So there I tried to 'not compare' it, but I failed.
I see you didn't go for the cheapest 1.5 either stoo.:grin2:
