Hi all, today my clutch pedal has all of a sudden started creaking/sqweezing and gone abit sticky/not smooth when bringing up the pedal slowly.
Seems a common problem with a quick fix being to lubricate the pedal box assembly and clutch cylinder from inside the footwell.
The car still has warranty but from what I've read, the fix for this at a garage would be to replace the master clutch cylinder, which by all accounts, only fixes things because it's pre greased and the same will happen in a short while.
Is it worth taking to the garage for work or would I just be better to get some grease and get on with things?
There seems to be some dubiety whether its the pedal box or the clutch master that needs replacing. Either way neither seems easy to fix without replacing.
Mine use to squeak, cure it with various different grease including lithium grease and chain grease but it would only cure it for a week. I bled the clucth and it hasn't squeaked in over a month now, so maybe worth a try.
I may be wrong, but sounds like it's the pedal box assembly to me. Had totally gone this morning but after a couple of minutes with the fans on, back it came.
When I had an 8G I just learned to drown the Squeaking out to the stage I hardly noticed it.. I suppose if you're doing a lot of Stop / Start driving about town it could turn quite Tedious.
Mines only when releasing the pedal really slowly, not a peep when I press it or change gear fast. I think I'll get some white lithium grease for the pedal assembly and see how I go. If it's the CMC then I'll probably get it replaced under the warranty whilst I can.
It's boggling my mind abit at the minute, everyone I speak to tells me not to use one type of lubricant and use another.
I may just use silicon grease, atleast that way it's safe on everything, but then again, I need something good with metal and I don't think silicon grease is.
Yes. Crazy isn't it, but a common phenomenon of 'the wisdom of the web'. What it really indicates is that no one knows, or if anyone does, it is clouded by those who don't, so your guess is as good as theirs.:surprise:
Honda use something out of a spray can (I've had three different cares squirted to fix a squeaky clutch pedal) but I don't know what it was, just that they gave all three a squirt for free.:grin2:
Petroleum based grease and rubber are not happy bedfellows, but does anyone actually use rubber any more? Most 'rubber' is a form of plastic which is probably pretty impervious to grease. (Please note the 'probably' disclaimer.):grin2:
Right, so, I got fed up with this going round and round in my head, so I've rung Honda. They have told me that he would use Castrol LM grease or any white lithium grease but not a spray because of the danger of slipping on pedals. The chap I spoke to was the senior technician and actually has a CRV with the issue, all be it his is from the master cylinder. From what he said it seems the key point in identifying if it's CMC or pedalbox assembly, is if it sqweaks or creaks, pedalbox being the latter.
So...Honda endorsed white lithium grease, there you have it.
