Auto Stop/Start not Working

Over recent weeks I have found the Auto Stop/Start has not been kicking in.

Battery is fine, and have tried switching 'off' Air Con etc but still will not work!.

Visited Dealer yesterday for check (under Warranty), no problems with Battery/General Electrics etc - Was told Honda are aware of this problem and are working on it!!

Has anyone else got/had this problem and what views/ info do they have?

PERHAPS 'DAN' knows a bit more about this problem??

The idle stop is a bit of a pointless gimmick anyway unless you stop frequently for long periods of time. Cutting the engine in stop/start traffic or at traffic lights doesn't really save you any fuel, as the fuel you didn't burn from not idling would be used up starting the engine again.

Although my idle stop does work, it is a bit fussy as to when it does. As you mentioned, it doesn't like the air con, but I noticed mine also takes offence at my MP3 player.

There are a few other threads discussing that already ... looks like it is only affecting the petrol engines (I have the same issue with my 2.0 CR-V).

If you don't drive the car for a couple of days, the car fails to notice when the battery is fully recharged and will never kick in.

Something funny, I was at my dealer last Thursday to put to snow tyres on and had them check the auto/stop issue (as well as some other electronic alerts) and while I was going through the manual, I noticed that this issue is actually described in the CR-V manual ... and the solution is to disconnect/reconnect the battery

I hope that Honda will come with a better solution

I do agree the idle stop when in general car use, is a pointless gimmick.

My concern was that maybe there were other car Electronic problems brewing, but all was well apart from this issue.

Interesting, your comment regarding the MP3 player, I always have my iPod connected and switch it on when in the car - will check if this has any effect.

Mine has stopped in the last few days too... so maybe it is weather related? Can't remember it not working last winter

Same problem. Last week they replaced the battery. It happens if you don't use the car for few days and the system cannot measure the battery level properly. Disconnect the battery negative for a couple of minute and it should work again.

As said above there are a couple of threads already, my dads had problems with his (1.8 ES), cars been back twice and Honda have charged the battery, think that keeps it working for about three months then fails to work again.

mine keeps doing it, ther "reset" it and 2 days later there it goes again. Its even more amazing when it says it cant do it yet has clearly done it as the revs are at zero. Auto wipers and lights also get affected...sounds like a massive software glitch. Im fed up of keep going back to the dealer though

Just turn it off and ignore it then. It's just a pointless gimmick to get the car under an emissions level for cheaper taxing. You don't have to actually use it ever, in most situations it doesn't save you anything anyway, and in situations where it would... just turn the engine off yourself!

I doubt there's a problem. When the weather is colder it takes longer for your engine to warm up and cabin too. Having the heater off (by pressing the "OFF" button) completely will mean you will idle stop sooner, but probably you'll get misted windows. This is the reason the idle stop doesn't activate, to allow your engine to warm up and operate efficiently , but also to hear the cabin and clear the glass. If you turn on the text in the menu it will tell you why it is not stopping each time. I imagine it will either show a thermometer symbol for cold engine or 'A/C' for anything heater related. I hope this helps to clarify

There IS a problem. A few users, including me, have already described it on these forums.

This is a known problem.
Afaik, Honda Germany is replacing the battery-sensors, since about 50% of them are faulty.
